I've never had to hold any water with any of my pregnancies, in fact this time around I had to go empty my bladder so she could get a better look at the placenta.
Well what the heck?!?! When I called to make my appointment they said I needed to empty my bladder 1.5 hours before my appointment and then drink 32-40 oz of water. I had to do this during an ultrasound when I was not pregnant once but I thought it was odd that I need to now.
Preggo brain is hitting me and I can't remember exactly how much water they told me to drink for my upcoming a/s check but that sounds about right. It was the same for my NT scan I was told to drink 32oz of water 1hr prior.... The only problem was there ended up being an emergency u/s that got sent up from the ER and my appt got delayed. By the time I was called back it had been almost 2hrs and I was almost dancing, luckily LO was cooperating so the tech was able to let me run to the bathroom really quick.

My mom asked me this exact question. They had me with an empty bladder then entire time, then during it asked me to get up and pee to assist with getting a few more images.
I think thats older information. I had to drink water with my ds 6 years ago but at all the ones Ive had this pregnancy theyve had me pee before hand. I think its due to more advanced equipment then theyve had before.
I never hold water for my u/s's. And I have already had 5 this pregnancy (and like a total of 7 or 8 with my first). I just drink a bottle of water on my way to the hosptial, and make sure I'm done by the time I get there.
For my a/s she had my empty my badder 1/2 way through because it was "too full" and the baby wasn't moving enough for her.

My appt is at 9am. The nurse told me the empty my bladder at 7:30, and drink 24 oz of water between 7:30 and 8am. I think everyone's policy may be a bit different though, so I would just call and ask your doctor's nursing staff or u/s techs.
I've had 5 u/s already (due to bleeding) and the a/s is the only time they told me to have a full bladder. They didn't tell me how much to drink, but I think I'll just drink like two water bottles.
I've never been told to drink/hold water prior to any U/S and I've been with two different practices. I see people talking about it though. Sounds like torture to me!
I was told to have a full bladder. Usually I don't drink lots of water right before because then I have to pee so bad it hurts, but I'll just stop going to the bathroom about an hour or so before. For some reason I find I can just contain myself better that way.
I was told to empty my bladder an hour and a half before, and then to drink 8-12 oz of water 30-45 minutes before appointment time. When I got to the a/s, the tech took pictures of my cervix, ovaries, and everything around the baby. I was then told to empty my bladder so she could start getting measurements of the baby. The tech ended up having me use the restroom twice while in the scan.
I am always told to drink 4 8oz glasses of water 1 hours before my ultrasounds. I drink 1 1/2 - 2 bottles and I finish them about 30 mins before my appt. I usually just have the feeling i have to pee when I get there and then when the ultrasound is done (10 mins) they let me empty.
The only time I haven't had a full bladder was for the internal ultrasounds in early pregnacy.
I have always had to drink 32 oz of water before my u/s. They say to start drinking it 2 hours before hand and finish an hour before your appointment. After crying in pain the first time round I hold off drinking the water closer to the appointment. At 2 ultrasounds I was told to go empty my bladder half way through. Like PPs said they like to have a full bladder to see your cervix and placement of the placenta I was told.
At this last one she told me I did not have to drink as much water next time I came in, but not to tell anyone she said that.
Had my a/s this morning and after hearing mixed information about drinking water and what not before I decided my doctors office didn't mention it so I wouldn't worry about it. I asked the tech if I could use the restroom before she started and she said of course. We had no problem seeing baby.

Anyone else asked to drink water before a/s?

Some ask for a full bladder so they can see the cervix. They let you pee right after they look at that though.
My doctor no longer requires the full bladder at all. thank goodness

This exactly. As soon as the tech looked at the cervix she let me go empty.
