January 2013 Moms

What would you go by?

Ok, so my OB says I am Due Jan. 13 by LMP.  I have always measured ahead but he is sticking with the date.

My Peri. says by meausurements I am due Jan.6th.  So that is the date she is going by lol.

I know when I ovulated...well 80% sure and Jan. 13 fits more into the proper time range...Otherwise I got pg about 1 week after AF and I seriously can't remember if we had sex then....shoot I can't remember the last time we had sex now.....much less 5 months ago!

What would you go by?

Re: What would you go by?

  • Jan 13th, because measurements can vary by up to two weeks (I think) at this point.

  • January 13.  It doesn't really matter though because LO will arrive whenever, could be before or after either date.  The main reason it matters is if your OB needs to induce if you go too late, in which case they will go by their date not your choice anyway.

  • Eh, I'd say 2nd/3rd week of January. My DS was due Feb. 4th, measured ahead at all my appointments and was born 11 days "late" on February 15th.

If you want a date to focus on (which I completely understand) I'd go with the 13th because I know once I passed my due date with DS I started going crazy and feeling like I'd be pregnant forever.

    I would say Jan 13.

I would disagree with " they will go by their date. [It's] not your choice anyway".

When I was pregnant with my third the OB practice wanted to knock five weeks off of my EDD. With my third pregnancy I felt quickening three weeks earlier than I had with my two previous pregnancies. Also with my two previous pregnancies my sons measure two weeks later than expected.  I suggested the OB practice knock off only three weeks. They didn't. But I did find a midwife who was willing to go with the three weeks earlier EDD.

( I would have to change healthcare providers anyhow, because I moved from MA to FL during my last trimester.)

My son was born three days shy of the three weeks earlier EDD.

Even if I stuck with the OB practice I would refuse any interventions I am not comfortable doing.

Anyway your OB is sticking with the Jan 13th EDD. I doubt being induced too soon is not an issue (for now).

  • I would say 13th because it better fits the time frame. My doc is doing the same thing... I charted while TTC and I know exactly when I ovulated and everything and that my due date is actually February 4th, however at 6 weeks I had tummy pain and they did a very early u/s to check for ectopic pregnancy and dated me at 7 weeks so my new due date is Jan 28th. I'm pretty sure we were not BDing a week before my ovulation because we were trying to save our energy lol, so even though the 28th is the official due date, I still say its the 4th. Regardless, it will probably not happen on either of those days lol
  • I'd really push to go with the later date to avoid induction when you really werent overdue yet.... but thats just me....

  • If you are 80% sure when you ovulated I'd go by that.

  • I'm in the exact same boat as you, i'm due January 7th but my LMP puts me at January 12th, i'm just going with the ultra sound as i've had 3 now and they all say January 7th but i'm keeping an open mind that it could possibly be the 12th, the further away from Christmas the better for me, preferably lol.

  • If you know when you O'd, I'd go by that.  If your peri. is going by measurements from an early dating U/S (and you're not so sure of your O date) then I'd go with that.  Also, keep in mind that babies are typically born anywhere from 38-42 weeks with FTMs typically going into labor around 41 weeks.  This just to say, the estimated due date really doesn't mean anything anyway.  Also, it's probably to your benefit that your OB is going with a later EDD because they won't start pushing for induction earlier than necessary (if this will be an issue with your practice).
