is what I feel like saying to my daughters grandmother who knows it ALL! Thru out the pregnancy my mother & I have gotten very close. She was even in the delivery room. However lately it seems she just knows whats best for my daughter. When she was admitted to the hospital she kept telling me formula was just as good as breast milk & telling me all these stories about how breast milk isn't as good as I think. She acted annoyed with my persistence to BF & not give her formula (which she did for both of her children). Then she suggested I start using cereal and saying that I wasn't feeding her enough when I told her she would NOT be getting cereal in her bottle or at all until the Dr gave us the OK (& even then i am unsure about it) she acted annoyed and just so smug like I have no clue what i am doing, & sometimes she can be down right nasty!
More recently we found a lump in my daughters neck
, the dr ordered a chest xray & ultra sound. My dh who works in medial imaging refused the chest xray & explained how absolutely unnecessary it was for a 3 week old to be exposed to radiation before we have any clue as to what it could be. He suggested we start with the ultra sound & routine blood work & if it was then necessary we would talk about our options. The dr ordered insane amounts of blood work, so insane the lab called his office and refused to draw all of it out of a baby who wasn't even 7 pounds! (were switching pediatricians monday ). When I starting venting to my mother about how these test seemed unnecessary & how much my little baby has been thru she said "I'm glad I'm not your Dr your kind of a *** questioning everything he is ordering"
SERIOUSLY??
anyone else having a problem with people who think they know whats best for their newborn, bc im going insane!
Re: actually YOU dont know everything & I CAN do this!
My MIL is like this, only she's extremely uneducated on children/infants and hers often compare their childhood to being raised by wolves. We ran to the store across the street while she watched a sleeping LO (figured this was safe) and came back to her about to give him a bottle of formula (we had a sample sitting on the counter and are EBF). In the 5 minutes we were gone she woke him to feed him because he looked hungry!
oh my gosh, how infuriating!!! I haven't had to deal with any of this yet, but I do have family members who I know I'll have to lay down the law with. stick to your guns!
