June 2011 Moms

Anyone want to help me play dress up?

We're doing pictures on Saturday and I can't decide what we should wear!

First, for DD. Outfit A - my mom made, it's super cute on DD and I love it. Outfit B - appropriate for the maternity part of our session, a little stained if you look closely, and the shirt is close to being too small. Outfit C - the shirt is potentially too big on DD and may look silly, she's never worn it before so it's in better shape than B. Outfit D - really sweet, I love overalls but I'm leaning away from this one because she wore a different pair of overalls for her 12mo pics, I just can't cut it yet!

Next, me. Outfit 1 - jeans and a t-shirt, I feel like this is more flattering than the other shirt since it's more form-fitting to my bump/me. I have the same shirt in black, white, red and coral so those would be options as well (thank you, mom!). Outfit 2 - though I feel like this shirt is less flattering, I also feel like it's more fun and I like the neckline. Outfit 3 - shows another option for pants, black capris.

Third, based on your picks for DD and me, what color shirt should I get for DH? I'm pretty sure I'm just going to try and find a nice fitting polo for him.

TIA!

  • outfit A for DD (you could make her a little sign or something if you want her to hold something that says "Big sister!"?) and outfit 2 for you. I actually think that shirt is more flattering on you than 1 because of the length.

Is your shirt more red or pink? im so not good at coming up with colors, i usually have dh wear a black or white shirt bc im no good at it being coordinated without it being matchy!

Haha, that's my problem too. I'd say that 2nd shirt is magenta? I'm terrible at naming shades...

Edit: And see, I think the length of the 2nd one is what makes it less flattering, especially from the side! Like it makes me look bigger along with my bump but I suppose that may just be my lack of confidence...

  • For your DD, I vote outfit A.  D is cute too, but since she already wore overalls in previous pics, I wouldn't use a similar outfit again.  Plus, your mom will love that you used her dress, and it will make a nice story to tell DD that her grandma made that dress.

I like shirt 2 for you as well- based on the pics.  Although they're small pics so it's hard to get a good look.  Honestly, if the first shirt makes you feel more confident- than pick that one- it will show in your face and you'll think about how you wish you'd worn the other one whenever you look at the pics.  Both shirts look very nice with your bump!

As far as a shirt for your H- would a polo that has some green similar to the dress (like a stripe) be an option?  I'm not good at that either.  When in doubt, I don't think you can go wrong with white- I think black would look too dark/ serious with your outfits.

  • Outfit A for LO for sure - it looks super cute!

I like the shirt for you in Outfit 1, with the black capris.  I love photo shoots!

  • Outfit 'A' for your daughter. So stinkin' cute! I also agree with the PP who mentioned the sign do you have a little chalkboard you could use? That's an idea, anyways!

As for yourself, I completely see where you're coming from about the 1st outfit vs the 2nd. Fitted tops are a great way to show off your bump, as they'll frame it very nicely. I understand the worry about your beautiful shape getting lost in the flowiness of the second option! For this reason I would choose the 1st top. As a photographer that's what I would recommend anyways, but that being said, pick whatever you feel your best in, and of course something you won't feel awkward posing in! :

  • Outfit A for DD, and the first outfit for you :
  • Outfit A for DD and Shirt 1 for you. I LOVE fitted shirts to show off the bump! As for DH I would put him in a polo that coordinates the blue and green that you and your daughter are wearing. If you can find a striped one that would be perfect. I LOVE the idea of the small chalk board and maybe get some pink white blue and green chalk and write Big Sister and draw some hearts and flowers on it. This also helps tie all the colors together.
