I think my Dr. is relatively conservative. We did the first U/S to verify due date and she has drawn blood once.
I pee in a cup every time I go but other than that she hasn't run any other blood tests.
My A/S is next week but so far she hasn't done anything excessive.
Re: Does your Dr. run a lot of tests/do lots of ultrasounds?
I've had about 5 ultrasounds, LOL. hey i dont mind! 2 of them were only because of scares. I've had 3 blood draw's. One for 1st trimester, 2nd was for NT blood work, and my 3rd was for my 2nd trimester draw. Thank goodness i dont have to do any more blood work untill my 3rd trimester. I also have to pee in a cup every time i see the doctor as well. I think they are testing for protein in your urine and to make sure you dont have a hidden urinary track infection.
I think in my case since I switched to a new OB practice, they are running a lot of tests and u/s to build a complete medical history.
So far I had
3 u/s (including the NT)
a pap smear
a quad screen
genetic blood screening
My OB does not do much.
I had hcg and progesterone checked twice, at my request, due to a previous loss and history of low progesterone.
My first u/s would have been at 20 weeks other than the optional n/t scan. I ended up having 2 before then due to a week of bleeding. They didn't like the results of the first one, so they did another one a bit after the bleeding stopped.
1/12/13 DD was born
4/9/16 DS was born
9/17 CP
6/23/18 BFP EDD 3/4/19
I have had the same as u
Other than that, I pee in a cup every appointment. Only had a dating ultrasound at the first appt so far. And a/s is in a week!
To the OP, your doctor is practicing good simple medicine and my guess is that you are fortunate enough to be pretty healthy without any major pregnancy scares so far.
I'm in medical school and have spent many hours in an OB clinic. Most appointments are super boring. (pee in a cup for protein/signs of infection, weight, listen to heartbeat, measure fundal height, ask if you are feeling baby, etc.)
There should have been bloodwork at the 1st appointment (testing for immunity to various bugs, etc.) a pap and GC test if you hadn't had either in the past year, a dating U/S or NT scan if you want it, Quad screen (blood work) offered after 16 weeks, the A/S around 20 weeks, the glucose tolerance at 28 weeks, and then basically nothing unless there is concern about fetal growth (for instance if your fundal height is different than your gestational age).
Consider yourself lucky to have such a boring pregnancy
All of this! My doctor's office is the same way!
I'm high-risk, so I see two ob's. My regular ob I see every two weeks until the 3rd tri, then go once a week until 37w, and then twice a week. He does u/s's at every appt and the blood tests (i've had a lot because of low progesterone and to get my A1C done each trimester) The second ob (high-risk) I see once a month and have u/s's with.
So, yes, my ob is verrrry thorough.
I have a MW, so definitely not a lot of tests
Ultrasounds (which around here need to be booked 3 weeks in advanced if I dont want to travel 45+ minutes to get one done): dating, IPS screening, A/S (which will be x2)
Bloodwork: a bunch after my first appointment, 2 for IPS screening,
Everytime I am there I pee on a stick for protein & sugar.
I also recently did a urine test to check for UTI, even though I had no symptoms she checks since a lot of early UTI symptoms are also pregnancy symptoms.
Both the dating and IPS screening ultrasounds were optional and requested by me.
BFP #1 05/03/12 DD: 12/18/12
BFP #2 05/26/14 MMC: 6/26/14 D&C: 7/18/14
BFP #3 10/09/14 MC 10/24/14
My practice if pretty conservative with these types of things.
They check my urine every time for protein, infection, etc.
I had a pap smear, which I could have put off until after baby, but I wanted to just get it out of the way.
I had the usual blood panel done at my first appointment.
They offered genetic testing, but we declined, which they agreed with our decision.
I had an U/S done at my first appointment and my A/S is scheduled for 20 weeks. Hopefully no additional U/S later in pregnancy.
Oh, and I will do the GD test at 28 weeks.
Pretty typical.

my read shelf:
I think my dr is pretty cautious. Checks out everything just to be safe.
I pee in a cup every time and got a pap in the beginning.
Ive had 3 u/s's, one due to pain at 6 weeks that turned out to just be a cyst, the nt scan and the a/s.
I got blood done 3 times for the ob, the initial pregnancy battery of tests, the nt screen, the sequential screen.
Ive also gotten blood done 4 more times and sent to an endocrinologist for my thyroid. The endocrinologist says my thyroid is "puzzling".
I have another u/s scheduled for 24 weeks to check on the baby's thyroid and growth, plus more blood draws and another endocrinologist appt scheduled. Im sure Ill get the GD test at some point and other than that Im not sure what else they have in store for me.
I had an ultrasound every 2 weeks since the dating scan at 6 weeks to my anatomy scan at 18+5. I've had 3 miscarriages, once requiring a D&C, which increases your risk of a incompetient cervix. Every time I had an ultrasound, they did a quick vaginal one (eew) to measure my cervix to make sure it was behaving itself.
I knew this doctor was super cautious and proactive in this way, and that's why I switched from my previous doctor to him. Between my infertility problems (PCOS) and the increased miscarriage rates that go along with it, I wanted someone who REALLY knew how to make a pregnant lady feel secure.
plus 5 blood tests, and monthly pee checks.
I had a u/s at 8 weeks with blood work in Colorado.
At my 12 week appointment we couldn't find the heart beat on the doppler so my doctor did a quick u/s in Colorado.
16 weeks I moved here to Virginia and all I did was pee in a cup, they only do u/s at 20 & 36 weeks. [And I really mean only - they don't do the dating one so had I been here the whole time I'd have only just seen her 2 days ago]
I will have another u/s here soon though because they saw a calcium deposit on her heart so they want to investigate that further.
At 8 weeks, I went in and peed in a cup, had blood drawn for numerous tests and met with a nurse to go over mine and H's health history.
At 12 weeks, we met with the midwife and heard the babys heartbeat via doppler.
At 19 weeks, we had our a/s and breifly chatted with midwife after.
At 24 weeks, we meet with midwife and will hear the heartbeat via doppler and she will measure me.
If my midwife offered or wanted to do another u/s that was not medically necessary, I would decline. If I stay healthy and baby is doing well, I wouldnt have another ultrasund until 41 weeks.
