Dog Kicked my stomach

I have a small beagle, she is about 25lbs, but during the night while sleeping (yes, she sleeps in our bed) sometimes she kicks her legs out and happened to kick me in the stomach. I know I am fine and so is baby, but I just need some reassurance from you girls who are always so good at that.

Re: Dog Kicked my stomach

  • You're totally fine, your body is made to protect baby.  It will take a considerable amount of force to hurt baby.  Take this from a mama of a 32lb toddler that doesn't remember he needs to not climb on/run into at full speed/fall onto mama's tummy!

  • You should be fine. I have a 43lb 3 yr old that plays rough and landed on my stomach once. I asked my midwife about it and she said the baby is very well protected in there and it would take a significant fall or like a car accident to hurt baby.  I don't blame you for being nervous though...i had to sit still and wait for baby to move in order for me to feel better, it was a huge relief when I finally felt it.

Exactly. DD is constantly elbowing me or climbing on me despite my, "oh...watch out for mommy's tummy!"

  • I wouldn't worry about it :)

  • I've got a 70 lb dog who literally stepped full force on my stomach a week or so ago - I called the doctor about it and they told me what everyone else said baby is protected. She said IF you feel cramping/bleeding etc then be worried if not just watch the pup a little more carefully so you don't have to worry.

  • I distinctly remember sitting, jumping, and climbing on my mom's belly when my mom was pg with my brother when I was 4. He turned out fine ;)

  • I have a 100lb Great Dane mix who routinely head butts me in the belly (he only started doing this since I've been pregnant) when he wants attention.  DH asked the u/s tech about it and she explained it to him like the baby is in a swimming pool.  He's perfectly protected in there unless something extreme were to happen.

  • I had a very similar worry not long ago...I have two dogs who each weigh approximately 11 pounds and they both love to lay with DH and I (in bed, too..so no worries there!!!) However, since I've been pregnant, they mostly want to be with me (it's almost as if they know)..one night my little girl ran across the bed and jumped directly on my stomach. It really hurt and I was extremely sore in that spot the next morning, and boy was I panicking! However, later that day LO was back to moving around a lot and that weekend we heard a nice strong heartbeat..so I would try not to worry too much!

DH has been really proactive now to be sure she doesn't jump on me, and she's been getting pretty good at taking her time and walking around to get to where she wants to go..I guess it just takes a little adjustment for everyone (furbabies included!)

  • You're ok : luckily my dog is only 5 pounds so she can jump on me all she wants! It's funny that my baby will be bigger than her haha
