Pricey diaper bags

So I am in love with this diaper bag but I consider it expensive. I know it is less than many women spend on their Coach purses but we just don't throw that much money around in my house. Does that diaper bag line ever go on babysteals or anything like that? Or should I just give up and get one at Target.

Re: Pricey diaper bags

  • The only diaper bag I used for everyday use was one that I got for free at the hospital from one of the formula companies. When I took a long trip with DS, we used the small bag from our luggage set (the little duffle bag that we never use otherwise).
  • I feel like I have seen that brand on Zulily. Do you follow BabyCheapskate.com? That is a good place to find deals.Remember, you don't have to get a dedicated diaper bag. Keep an eye out for a cute, big purse. I have got my eye on a Fossil bag at Macy's to use.

  • Wow, that is pricey. I don't think I'd be able to justify spending that much on a diaper bag, personally. But my hospital gives out great diaper bags when you have the baby- I got this one when I had my 2nd daughter, and it's great. I know a lot of hospitals give out diaper bags- maybe check with yours first?

  • I have an 18 month old and we have tried # bags.  Honestly my favorite and what we do now is a book bag with few outfits and diapers for grandparents (plus whatever else needs to go in) but for everyday use I use a very cute purse like lunch box i bought of amazon.  I put my personal stuff in a pouch in the bag and her stuff in the lined bag.  I get a 2 for 1 and its cute as can be.  I have had tons people ask me where i gor my purse.  Amazon 20$.

  • Petunia Picklebottoms are great bags from what I have heard, and those I know who have them, swear they are worth every penny. But I don't know if I could spend that kind of money on one. I may end up going the book back or heavy-duty back pack rout. Keep an eye out on Zulily and sales at Target. Also, Pentunia has giveaways on their FB and website so put your name in for those. Or, for your baby shower, ask for amazon gift cards. If you get even a few $20 gift cards, its like getting a killer deal on a Petunia Picklebottom. :)

  • I will be getting the Petunia Picklebottom diaper bag this time around.  My friends have it and swear by it.  There is a compartment for almost everything, I love the changing pad that you can unzip and lay flat.  The main reason I am getting it is the fact it can be a backpack also.  With a newborn and a toddler running around, I am going to find the backpack part useful.

  • I wouldn't go as far as spending THAT much on a diaper bag.  Mine was around 75-80$ I believe and it has held up really well for the last 18 months.  There was a time (around 9 months) that I was carrying around so much junk for my son that I switched to an old backpack temporarily.  But now that he doesn't require much, I am back to my original.

  • I have a Vera Bradley diaper bag that I love. I've had it for two years and it has held up amazingly...and it's machine washable.  The *sale patterns on the Vera Bradley site are $74.99.  Just my two cents ;)

  • I have the Skip Hop Studio bag in Champagne.  I used it all through having DS and it still looks brand new.  It was $90 and I've gotten lots of compliments.  My SIL, on the other hand, loves bags but wants quantity over quality and buys cheapies.  She has tons of bags.  I'd rather spend a little more on a good quality bag and have it be my one and only.

  • I have a Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack and it is worth every penny! I tried a few other diaper bags/big purses before getting it and am sad I didn't just get this in the first place.

They do come up for sale on Baby Steals and Mamabargains every so often. And you can also keep your eye out for when they discontinue patterns. The older patterns go on sale and you can get the bag for about $110 instead of the usual $170+. I got mine for $109.

  • Believe it or not, I got my Petunia Picklebottom bag at Gap onsale. It was really cheap and cute. I am not sure if they sell them there anymore but it is worth a try.  Good luck, and ps it is worth the money.
  • I got a diaper bag that I LOVED when I was pregnant with my first, with tons of pockets, etc.  And when I put it into use, I could not stand it - I could not remember where I put everything, and it was too bulky.  I wound up getting a messenger style bag from Kate Spade, and it was perfect - I could keep it on while changing the baby while out, it held everything without being bulky, and lasted through my second.  It looks a bit beat up now, but I will be using it again for #3 too.  If we are out with my DH, or once the baby got a bit older, we found a regular backpack worked great for us too.

  • I love the Petunia Pickel Bottom bags!! I know they are pricey, but I think I'm going to end up getting one... It will hold up well so I can use it for all of my kids & everyone swears by them, plus it's just so cute I can't resist.  I'm thinking of asking for it as a Christmas gift :)

Did your hospital give you the diaper bag you linked? If so, I think I'll move to where you are just so I can get the bag! I don't think I've ever heard of a hospital giving away $150 diaper bags to all the new mothers!

I didn't get a bag from the hospital, but we used a pretty basic one (a red Kelty diaper bag that DH felt comfortable carrying). But I really just used a big purse most of the time (and still do.)

I have never heard of Zulily but I have Babycheapskate bookmarked. Thanks! I like Fossil.

  • I don't see the big deal with spending a decent amount of money on a good diaper bag.  It will basically be your purse for awhile, so I think it is definitely worth it.  I was actually looking at the same bag in the black currant pattern.
