August 2012 Moms

Critique my postpartum supply list :) Specific links included

Since so many August mamas already have their babies, I was hoping for some feedback on the products I'm thinking of buying. I'm hoping for a vaginal delivery. Let me know if I'm missing anything- or wasting my money buying a product I won't use.

Epsom salts for bath: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JJAVPQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A1LESNY6O88VSW

Dermoplast spray (antibacterial and hospital strength): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GCICES/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=A26T50EHKCFA9V

Witch Hazel (to pour on a pad and freeze). I've never used witch hazel before, so if there is a better liquid-type kind to buy, let me know: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TH71W0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&smid=A2KFAF0QS92MUL

Tucks pads (I assume to use for both front and back?): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GG850U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

 Always Infinity Overnight pads: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029NYQ1K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Thanks ladies!

  • tucks pads are witch hazel... they are like soaked in it..  i dont think youll actually put the liquid witch hazel on a pad and freeze it IMO though

and im finding the overnight sze pads annoying.. im still bleeding (11 days pp) but not that much that it fills the overnight size ESP before i change it...

however, i have appreciated the pkg of cheapie hanes undies ive bought.. bigger comffier.. idk

  • I would just buy Tucks instead of witch hazel to pour on pads...Tucks are pads soaked in witch hazel and it's just handier, plus you can leave them in your pad. Dermoplast saved my life - along with ice packs (so when you're in the hospital, ask for a few empty ice packs to take home with you! you should have Tucks pads and Dermoplast from the hospital as well, as well as pads/disposable underwear). I haven't used epsom salt or taken a bath. I'd much rather take a shower - the hot water beating down relieves my poor engorged breasts.

  • Tucks pads are for front and back-just line your whole pad with them. I also suggest a peri bottle for each bathroom and cottonelle flushable wipes (so much gentler on your parts than reg tp)

  • Are you having a hospital birth? They may send you home with ample amounts of most of that. If you are using Tucks pads, you could skip the witch hazel. Most easily found witch hazel has a high amount of alcohol and is kind of burny wheras the witch hazel in the Tucks isn't for some reason. The hospital may also send you home with a sitz bath that fits in your toilet which may take the place of doing it in the tub (which is where I assume you would use the epsom salt).

This is what I was going to say.  Our hospital provided the huge pads, Tucks pads, and spray.

I bought the sitz bath and all the same stuff for home and the only thing I've needed to use at home is my own pads and the Tucks pads.  I had a vaginal birth of a large baby but didn't end up needing any of the other pain management stuff.

I do wish I had brought more of my own smaller pads to the hospital since the ones they had were SO enormous.

  • Thank you everyone! I'll skip the witch hazel. The hospital is sending me home with a peri bottle, but I'm not sure about the other supplies. Better safe than sorry I guess!
