Ammonia smell in wetbag in morning?

I've been CD'ing since we brought our baby home from the hospital and have been noticing an ammonia smell in the wetbag after a few hours and especially in the morning. When my baby pees, her diapers don't smell, and when they come out of the wash, they don't smell.

Is this normal that they would smell after sitting all night? Or do I need to do something?

  • We have that too.  I figured that since they don't stink when clean or when I take them off her, it's okay if the diaper pail smells.  We modified our garbage can we put the pail liner in by cutting vent holes in the lid and attached a charcoal filter (the real simple brand) on the inside of the lid.  Got the idea from the kitchen compost bucket.  That thing can really reek sometimes but that filter contained the stink.  Seems to do the trick for her diaper pail.
