Enfacare premade vs powder

Hi ladies,

I have 10 week preemie twins. They get two feedings of enfacare a day. The NICU told us to stick with the premade stuff until they were term then we could switch to the powder whenever. I made the switch a couple of days ago and it hasn't gone well. They don't like the taste of the powder formula plus there is some major spitting up afterwards. They are now both constipated too. Is this normal? Maybe I made the switch too soon? I just ordered sOme mOre of the premade stuff but it is so expensive. Any words of wisdom?
TIA

Re: Enfacare premade vs powder

  • We feed Enfacare.  The NICU sent us home with powder and premade.  We used it interchangably until the premade was gone and LO didn't seem to notice a different/mind the difference.

  • I read a really interesting article on holistickids.com about making your own formula. There were two different recipes available, but both have comparable nutrients and fat content to breastmilk. I thought it sounded kind of crazy at first, but as I read the article it was like, "Oh my gosh! Women have been using raw cow milk to feed infants for centuries! Why would someone feed their baby powder?" It is hard to get a hold of raw cow milk in order to make your own formula, which is why another recipe is included. But the great thing about making your own is you can do a weeks worth all at once, store it in the fridge and freezer, and warm as needed. Seems pretty easy to me and much more nutritional :)

  • My son went home on the Neosure powder. They switched him over before we left the NICU. While he was there, he was on the premade stuff. He didn't notice a difference when we switched him from premade to powder. He also gets it at every feeding. He had a bout of constipation, but a little pear juice fixed him right up! good luck with everything!
My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • Not sure what formula your currently using, but did you mix a little of enfcare with the new formula? I would try that. We were on bm and neosure for two months, and once they stopped neosure, I switched gerber good start gentle (orange tub) and I slowly mixed it with bm, to help with the transition. I would suggest waiting a few more days before trying another formula. I used the premade stuff a few times, but she never really had a problem with powder or premade. Personally I can't afford to keep buying the premade, so I just buy the powder.

    Good luck!
