How to get around the Target return policy...

I thought I saw something earlier about Target's Return policy but I can't find it now. Sorry if this has been covered already.

When we registered at Target for our wedding we got lots of things we didn't register for. While we were very grateful for any gift we recieved some of it we would just never use. Like the Black sheets. Target only lets you return a few items every year without a receipt. In this situation I went online and added the item to our registry and made it show that we had recieved one of that item. If I couldn't find it online I would go to the store and add it and then go online and show that we recieved one.

Then you can return it because it is on your registry. It's kind of a PITA but it deos allow you to return stuff without a gift receipt.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Re: How to get around the Target return policy...

  • That is a good idea... We had issues when we registered with Target for our wedding and I really didn't want to register there for the baby but we didn't really have a choice. (Not everyone lives near a BBB and we wanted last minute people to be able to at least try to get something off our registry...)

How do you make it show that you received one?

  • They also have a rule that if you have a registry with them you can return stuff against that registry up to a certain dollar value (not certain what it is). We received a swing but already had one so we took it up there. They said since it was a baby item we could return it against the baby registry for store credit.

  • Great idea thanks. I had this issue with my last wedding. I was afraid to register there again.
