Sequential scan?

So I had my monthly OB appt on Tuesday and everything was fine. I asked about the NT scan results and she said everything was normal for this part and that there is a second part called a sequential scan (more bloodwork). I had never heard of this before and definitely had never heard of there being a second part. So my question is if this is normal? Some how I have freaked myself out about it and just wanted to know your thoughts....

I had the same thing. My ob said it was optional but since it was just bloodwork I went ahead and did it. I think she said it looks At spina bifida in case they can't get a good look at the a/s.

Yup. Always done in 2 parts.

I had to have a second set of bloodwork done even though everything looked normal and won't be given any more information until those results are in.

Yes, it's normal and like you I was surprised by the 2nd part as well. The 2nd part (blood work) was taken at my 16 week appointment and the results came back 3 days later.

Yup, I had that too. Not every OB does it, but it's totally normal!

Totally normal. I had the NT scan followed immediately by blood work and then I just had a second round of blood work this week. They told me the NT measurements were normal and that the blood work is most conclusive when looked at together so they will review it at my 19 week appointment.

I just had round two done on Monday. Still have the bruised hand from the blood work to prove it :-p. Its only one tube of blood.

They told me they dont call if everything is normal on part one, but everyone gets a call for part 2. I hope to hear back tomorrow or Monday.

Yep, totally normal. My office gives a preliminary result based on the scan and initial bloodwork and then you get the final result after the 2nd round of bloodwork.

The NT Scan should be bloodwork and an ultrasound. Around the 15-18 week mark there is also a quad screen that is bloodwork only. When they did your NT Scan did they not do b/w?

Yes, they did the bloodwork the first time.

Yes I just did the second part bloodwork yesterday.  In Canada it's always done in 2 parts, if you opt in to do any of the screening you do both parts.

Last time around I only had one set of bloodwork with my NTs, this time around I had a second set. My NT came back normal both times but my doctor added the second set just in case since we are trying to rule out any possible complications after my unexplained late loss.
