Ergo/Bjorn?

We are overwhelmed by carriers! A few new mommy friends swear by the Moby so I would like to try that for baby wearing, but DH said he thinks he will be more comfortable using a carrier such as the Ergo or Baby Bjorn. What's the difference? Do you recommend one over the other? Any specific style? TIA :o)

Re: Ergo/Bjorn?

  • The Ergo or Boba is a safer option than the Bjorn. Bjorn puts weird pressure on their spin and hips. The Ergo or any carrier type like that (I have a Boba) lets them sit so there isn't pressure on their legs. Plus it is more comfortable to have the strap around your waist. My Boba feels like it pulls at my armpits slightly because I think I'm chubbier. My skinnier friends don't have that complaint. The Ergo has a longer padded strap that would hit your armpits.

I have am still using the Boba for my youngest on my back, sometimes front. My husband uses it for my oldest on his back sometimes. They both love it.

  • Oh and I used the shiit out of the Moby with my first, she was born in November, it was a cooler time and it worked really well for those months but it was too hot to use it when my younger girl was smaller.

  • Ditto on the Bjorn.  I can't believe they still sell that thing.  How would you like to hang from your crotch? Big Smile  I love my Ergo.  I might get a Moby this time since it will be cooler.

  • My baby was never comfortable in the Bjorn and never slept in it. We got an Ergo when DS was 7mos. It was an amazing difference! He slept in it easily and it was comfortable for me and him (I have a bad back).

  • Ergo, Ergo, Ergo. It is a must have!

  • I used the Ergo with my first once he was a little older. I'm going to use it again, but I need to order the infant insert first.

  • Although it got detractors, my son loved the Bjorn. I did eventually end of switching the the Beco Gemini though because he got too big for the Bjorn and it was more comfortable/offered more carry positions for me. I don't have it but I might try the Lillebaby Everyware carrier on babysteals today. It looks similar to the Gemini but with a pocket for carrying things like the Ergo.

  • I will happily tell anyone to not buy the Bjorn. It is not good for babies posture and is only a front carrier. You can put baby on your back or sides and on the front in an Ergo. I love my Ergo and recommend it to anyone. I have gotten mixed reviews on using it as a newborn carrier (with the insert) and I have not done so myself yet because I didn't get my Ergo until DS was 6 months old. I use the moby when LO is a newborn and switch to Ergo when LO fits in the Ergo without support. I am going to try the newborn insert though and see how it goes.

THis.  We originally had the Jeep baby carrier, but it always hurt my back.  DH wore DS in it EVERY morning for their morning walks.  We bought the Ergo when DS was closer to a year old and LOVE it. I am getting the infant insert and can't wait to use it with this next LO.  We still use the Ergo with our son and he is 2 1/2.

  • Ergo is great for when they have good head control. I've not used the infant insert but haven't heard great things. I used a babyhawk for the first 6 months and loved it :)

THIS. Anything has to be better than the Bjorn, from all points of view. I really wish those would be recalled for good. If I have to see one more teensy infant dangling by their crotch, arms flailing about, legs limply dangling and head bobbing around uncontrollably I am going to lose it. Ditto for kids put into these things facing out before they are ready; I have seen babies who had the PTSD look of war vets. It's so inhumane.

  • I had a Moby in the beginning with DD. I hated that stupid thing. I switched to the Ergo and LOVED it! So comfortable for both of us! I still would use my Ergo for DD today. We did upgrade our current Ergo to one more "Gender Neutral" (aka DH hates the stars all over my current one). We also are getting the insert and using it from the get-go.

Bjorn is bad. I wouldn't want to be dangled by the crotch.

  • Carriers are overwhelming for sure! From various lurking and reading that I've done, I think we're going to get a Moby and a Babyhawk, and then add in an Ergo once he's big enough to not need the insert.

Definitely no Bjorn. I haven't encountered a single person who's done any research on babywearing and thinks they're a good idea.

This, exactly!  I had a Moby with DS and a Bjorn (I was unaware of the hip issues).  This baby I'm getting an Ergo and a K'Tan (easier to tie).
