Question! Facing induction tomorrow

Hi everyone!

So unfortunately, I may be facing an induction tomorrow night which I am praying and hoping to avoid.  Over the course of last night and this morning I lost my mucus plug and I've had cramping on and off.  Did anyone go into active labor within 24 hours of this happening once they were 40 weeks?  I'm debating canceling the induction for tomorrow.  Our baby is measuring big... close to 10lbs which I why they want to induce.  However, if my body will do it on it's own I am willing to give it another couple days.

Thanks in advance!

  • If you have any doubts about, don't do it.

I can't speak from experience about the MP/labor thing, but just keep in mind those u/s's are rarely accurate for what they tell you and many women don't have any problems birthing bigger babies anyway.

It can't hurt to go just a few more days to give your body a chance to do it's thing. Or ask if they can strip your membranes first instead.

  • whats your chances of a successful induction? Have you looked at your bishop score? are you dilated? where is baby in relation to pelvis? where is your cervix? there are 5 categories that help determine how favorable an induction will be.

Like you, I am getting induced tomm night, but my body is primed and I should have really good results with an induction. I am 3 cm, 75% effaced. 0 position, soft and anterior cervix. But if you aren't very dilated and cervix is posterior, baby rally high etc. then you may want to prospone the induction in fear that the outcome may lead to c section

  • I lost my MP about two weeks before I delivered. I was induced at 40 weeks. My OB had estimated his weight to be 7lbs, 5 oz and he was born at 8 lbs, 9 oz. Ultrasounds for weight are known to be notoriously off and if you're having doubts about whether to have the induction or not, don't. I'd give your LO a few more days and see what happens.

I agree with the PP, take a look at your Bishop score. I scored a 9 and had a good induction experience with no complications and delivered vaginally (a c-section was my greatest fear!).

This exactly. And listen to yourself, if you're nervous and you don't want to do it it should be okay to put it off a few more days. Your baby could easily be closer to the 9lb range (they say those ultrasounds can be off by up to a pound, but I've heard stories of more) and 9lb babies occur all the time now.

  • Thanks everyone!  I have an appointment tomorrow morning to be rechecked and have a membrane sweep.  We will discuss delaying the induction at that time with the doctor.  I feel confident in putting it off a few more days.

  • I was induced last week Monday, but unlike you I had yet to loose my MP and I wasn't having any contractions.  The doctors were measuring our LO to be 9 pounds.  When I finally delivered her she was 8 lbs. 1 oz.  My thoughts for you are if you think your body will do this on it's own and the doctors are okay with it, give it a few days.  As PP are you dilated or effaced?  High/Low?
