Seth Benjamin has arrived! Story of induction

I've pretty much been a lurker on here but wanted to share my story.

For the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy,  I was in a lot of pain. My ribs hurt, I couldn't sleep, etc.  My doctors said it was just that I was pregnant and deal with it.  When the baby came, he came.

Well last Monday, the pain over the weekend was to much.  So we went into the doctor's office and they tried to do a NST.  Between the rib pain and uncomfortable chair, the test wasn't working.  So they sent me in for a biophysical ultrasound exam.

Turns out my fluid levels were to high.  The max number is 35 and mine were at 39.  Its called poly something. Doctor said go right to the hospital, you will be induced today. I was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. Always trust your intuition!

So we checked into the hospital around noon.  They ordered me lunch before we started since I wouldn't have been able to eat for a while.

The plan was to insert Cervidil which is a shoe string like medicine that gets wrapped around the cervix to start the cervix to efface. This was to last 12 hours. Then the pictocin would be started.  So around 4pm the Cervidil was inserted and we figured we'd meet the baby Tuesday afternoon sometime.

I was then given Ambien to sleep and an IV drug for the cramping from the Cervidil.  At around 10pm my water broke to the doctor's surprise.  As the night went on, I must have been moving around to much so the nurse came in the check the baby heart beat monitors.  I asked to go to the bathroom. While in there I yelled to the nurse I had to poop. The nurse asked when I was checked last.  Turns out I was fully dilated and the baby was on his way!  This all went down at 1am, before the pictocin was even started!  The doctor couldn't believe that it was happening already.

I had one contraction where I wasn't allowed to push since the doctor and the nurses weren't ready yet.  Then two contractions later, Seth was here!  Born 1:16am on Tuesday morning.

I was very lucky with an easy and short labor.  I had an episiotomy since the labor was so quick.

It's been a whirlwind ever since!
