We have purchased most of our furniture. I thought I'd pass on whatI learned for FTMs
We needed to order our furniture because one of the pieces was being discontinued.
I went to 2 different BRU and got completely different answers on delivery, assembly and holding times (how long they will hold the furniture for before delivery). it seems this varies by store.
My advice is spend the time to find the most knowledgable person they have in furniture before buying. I dealt with a bunch of people before I found one who had a clue and he has been extremely helfpul. I probably would have ordered my furniture elsewhere otherwise.
when you use your bru card you can get 20% off coupons. I have been going in and buying small things and accumulating the coupons. (although this week they don't seem to have teh 20% off coupon) DH and i went in and bought 2 pieces of furniture and each used a coupon. We went in a few days later and did the same thing and included it on the original delivery (they will deliver up to 5 pieces for one fee)
BRU will not let you order something that is not in stock. Our crib is currently backordered so they will be holding the furniture for us until we can order the crib. Although annoying i can see the point. it is better than committing to getting you a crib and then potentially not having it when you need it. I have plenty of time so I am not woried!
They have protection plans. Although I don't normally advocate these, after looking at them we purchased them for our glider/ottoman because it would cover stains and the gliding mechanisms. Things i could easily see needing repair
All in all between the one piece being discontinued and the coupons being used on the other pieces we ended up saving about $500 on our furniture.
Re: BRU furniture shopping - what I learned
Right - you need to make sure the brand you're purchasing isn't listed on the 20% off coupon. For instance, I do not believe Medela products can be purchased using the 20% off (I think... I haven't had to look for that in over a year, so it may have changed). I know the monitor set we want is Motorola and we cannot use a 20% off coupon for that.
As far as furniture, we bought our crib and dresser from BRU and used 2 coupons. They just let me do two separate purchases vs me going through then DH going through.
Yep, those coupons are pretty useless to me most of the time.
Thanks for the BRU advice!
FYI for others, we weren't able to use the 20 percent off coupons on our furniture because it wasn't in stock; therefore, it was considered a "special order" and excluded from the coupons.
