crib shopping pt: 2 (vent.. kinda)

so we went shopping with my MOH today and it went great. got a lot of great info from buy buy baby and babies r us. we ended up picking out a set from babies r us that is white. we like a dark wood finish but the babies room isn't the biggest of rooms so we don't want to make it look super small. and we both liked the white. so we went with white. we ask the furniture employee about it and she says ohhh it cant be ordered and we don't know when it or be able to be ordered. WHAT?? how do you just not know anything?? she couldn't even give me what a normal time frame is for situations like this. so we said ok fine... what about this other one in white.. EXACT SAME ANSWER! like is white just popular or just unpopular? we had to ask her to call some other stores to see if they had any. the didnt even offer...  

needless to say it really turned me off from babies r us... ANYWAYS.. i know we have some time but i had no idea this process would be this way!

has anyone else had a problem like this or had better luck at another store yet?

    I've actually heard that this is fairly common for stores.  After running in to this same problem with BRU regarding furniture, I found the styles that I liked in the stores, but then went online to actually order the furniture.  I actually ordered DS's crib through Amazon and it turned out great.

    Amazon. I found the items I liked in BRU then I registered on Amazon. People can still look at the list, head to a store, pick it up in person and click "Buying this gift elsewhere" if they don't want to order it online. My husband's grandparents did this for our wedding [we love Amazon] and it worked perfectly so it's not necessary for people to order online if they aren't comfortable doing so.

    This is why we are not going with Babies R Us. I also found their delivery charges really high. We went to Buy Buy Baby and found a set we love. When we asked about delivery they said we can have it shipped to the store for free and just pick it us which is no big deal for us.

    My SIL also went with BBB for the same reasons and because the quality seemed so much better.

    We were warned that it could take 12 to 16 weeks for our order to arrive but they never mentioned being unable to order any piece that we asked about. That seems ridiculous to me.

    BBB will also allow you to use a 20% coupon on each piece so we are saving quite a bit on the bedroom set we are buying.

    I ran into this, this weekend.  BRU will not allow you to order something that they do not have stocked.  we need to wait a few weeks to order our crib.

    The best thing you can do is find a knowledgeable associate to help you.  I got the same answer with the first person I asked. The 2nd person was extremely knowledgable and helpful.

    btw.. it seems that delivery changes by store.  I was quoted 2 different processes/ prices in the 2 stores I went to.
