Short Version: Elana Judith was born on 8/10/12 (her due date) weighing 6lbs even and 18 3/4 inches long.
Long Version:
Migraines have plagued me this entire pregnancy. I was hospitalized for two days at 16 weeks due to dehydration and intractible migraine. I had seen a MFM and a neurologist. They put me on a blood pressure medication and pain medication which I took throughout my entire pregnancy as needed. The past few weeks they had gotten a lot worse. I was being prescribed vicodin and phenergan to deal with the pain.
Thursday 8/9 I went to my OB appt. I was not dilated or effaced so he gave me two options... either start the induction that night, or stay on vicodin for another 3 days in the hope my cervix would ripen and induce on Monday. He warned me that I was at increased risk for c-section. We decided to induce Thursday anyway.. I was not comfortable taking pain medication any longer.
We arrived at the hospital at 3:30, cervadil was placed at 4. By 6pm I was starting to feel cramping/contractions... I also had a migraine, shocking I know. I slept for about an hour that night and woke up still not dilated by 50% effaced.
I showered and managed to accidentally remove my heplock which bled everywhere. They put another line in and started pitocin at 6am. By 9 I was gagging from pain during each contraction. I was only 1/2 cm dilated, they gave me morphine.
At noon I was 1cm dilated and still in incredible pain. The Dr. decided to give me the epidural then. I practically proposed to the anesthesiologist. I felt wonderful after that. My in-laws arrived at 2 and I could actually talk. At 2:45 the Dr. checked me and stretched me to 4cm stating I had some scar tissue on my cervix (most likely from the two surgeries in the past year) he broke up. At 3:15pm I felt pain on my right hip.. I thought the epi wasnt working so we called anesthesia. The anesthesiologist made them check me, I went from 4cm to 10cm in 30 minutes! I pushed for 20 minutes and Elana made her debut! I tore a little bit and have some stitches, but we are doing great!
Feeding wise we are struggling a bit. She was doing well breast feeding until yesterday, now she has decided to latch but not suck. I have been pumping ever 3-4 hours and giving her breastmilk via bottle. My milk is starting to come in. She is doing well with that and pees and poops like a champ. I wasn't expecting her to be so little, otherwise I think I wouldn't be so rushed to pump and feed her.
