Hi ladies,
I just want to know if anyone's been to L&D at UCSD medical center in Hillcrest and are you satisfied with it? And why? Also, if you choose between UCSD in Hillcrest and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital, which one you like better. The reason I want to know is because my OB is from sharp but my peri is from UCSD. My peri just last week told us that we should consider going to UCSD instead of Sharp. We've been thinking back and forth. We see that Sharp Mary Birch has very good review at yelp.com but I get better caring from doctors at UCSD than Sharp. We have signed up to the hospital tour of both hospital tours but we want to know if we really have to go to both.
Re: UCSD Hillcrest L&D
I was a UCSD birth center/midwife patient but had both my boys (2 yrs old & just under 2 mo. old) in UCSD Hillcrest L&D. I had a midwife deliver each time and had a wonderful experience.
The staff was caring and considerate and listened to my concerns and needs/wants.
If you have any specific questions or anything feel free to pm me.
I can't speak to UCSD, but I felt that I had a very positive birth experience with Sharp Mary Birch in June. We plan to use the same ob and to deliver there again whenever I get pregnant with #2.
Highly recommend UCSD!!
I delivered at Mary Birch and they are known to have a high c-section rate. (I ended up being one of them). SMB has a nice, new facility and a professional staff. But expect that you are put into the system and a number. (yes, the doctors and nurses and very nice and professional, but they all follow standard procedures which are not necessarily pro-mother and pro-baby) I did appreciate the lactation consultants- they were excellent.
But compared to UCSD- the philosophy is completely different- at UCSD, it's all about personalized service. Your pregnancy, your way. They totally understand different birth plans and respect and support your choices. So different than what I experienced at SMB.
Take the tours at both hospitals-- at Sharp, it's all about the facilities and how efficient they are-- at UCSD, it's all about your choices.
