I was at the Dr on Monday and they did a cervix check. No dilation, no effacement, nothing. Baby girl is quite comfy in there. I was previously experiencing a dull, menstrual pain (not like cramping) before, but I'm feeling it more now. And I have this awful shooting pain in my vag (TMI...sorry!) occasionally, but it has been pretty painful and more frequent today. Could this be a sign that my body is actually doing something? Anyone else experiencing this?

I, too, get this all the time, and have been for a couple months now. Unfortunately, I don't think it means much in terms of going into labor sooner or later.

i didn't get the shooting pain until the last 2 weeks, and i'm now making a little progress (emphasis on little!).  My ob said it was just the ligaments etc getting ready to go and could still be weeks until she decides to appear.

Agree with this.  Lightning crotch is one of the common joys of pregnancy but doesn't necessarily have anything to do with dilation or effacement.  Just little one's friendly jolt to let you know they are still in there.

I've been having horrible lightning crotch for the last couple weeks, like you I thought maybe it was doing something in the progress department, but according to my 38 wk check last Tuesday, it has done nothing. I'm still closed and thick but baby's head is low. That's probably all it is, baby's head has dropped down a little and now they can headbutt your cervix causing those nice lightning jolts.

Ah thats a bit disappointing! I was hoping the pain was for a good cause haha. Hopefully there will be some progress at my 38 wk check up.
