STM?- Are body pillows really worth it??

Hi ladies,

So I had the worst nights sleep of my pregnancy, would wake up after about an hour in each position with either my hips hurting or my back. I put a regular pillow between my legs but it was not helping at all last night. The hip I was laying on was the one that was hurting so I am going to have DH switch our matress with the extra bedroom one and see if it is our matress.

Anyways, I woke up this morning determined to get a body pillow but they are expensive and look like you use them the exact way I have been using my other pillow. So my question is will a body pillow really make a world of difference????

Thanks!!

  • I just got a snoogle and slept with it for the first time last night and it's definitely worth the money. I still woke up slightly stiff, but nowhere near the pain I've been dealing with every morning. I was also much more well rested this morning than I have been for a long while.

  • Bed Bath and beyond has a cheap one for about $10 and the one I got for $20.

they have not helped my hip (the side I lay on) the only thing that has helped is flipping over to the other side.

  • I put a regular pillow between my knees and that helps tremendously. I doubt I will buy a body pillow- I was fine without one the last time.

  • I love my body pillow (I'm not actually sleeping with it every night yet, but just as needed.  As I get a bigger bump I'm sure I'll start sleeping with it every night again), but I just have a regular old body pillow that works just fine.  I personally am not willing to invest the money in a pregnancy specific pillow.  Maybe it is better, but I just don't see how it could be THAT much better and since I'm happy with my body pillow I don't intend to experiment :)

  • Soooooooo worth it! My mother made mine and I love it. I wish I had to cause DH is always hoggin it and I don't like to share :)
  • I have a normal full length body pillow [not a maternity one] and so far I love it. I've had it about 3 weeks.

This.  I got mine for like 10 bucks and I use it ALLLL the time.  My husband jokes around and calls it my "boyfriend" because I'm always cuddled up with it.

  • I bought a snoogle a few weeks ago. It's okay, but not worth the money. I really don't sleep any better and it's huge and takes up so much of the bed. I wish I would have just bought a regular body pillow.

  • I got a body pillow a few weeks ago and it has helped.  Also, since it's the hip you're laying on, have you tried to put a small pillow under that hip to alleviate the pressure from the mattress? I also use the pillow to help me not be so straight up and down when I am lying on my side which also helps relieve some pressure on the hip I am lying on.  Good luck!
  • I ended up hating my snoogle last time. I liked it at first but the part that went under my head was way too stiff. I tried putting my pillow over the head part but that did not work out for me. I also found that it was very difficult to turn over with the pillow and I ended up waking all the way up to resettle. This time I have a smaller kidney shaped pillow that I put between my knees and supports my belly. I love it. It gives me the support I need and is very esy to roll over with.

I also had a wedge last time for my belly and I was surprised that something so small gave so much support. I may get one again if my new pilloe does not support my 3rd trimester belly.

  • To me they are not worth it.

  • I have two body pillows. I sleep with one for the first half of pregnancy. then i put the other down for the second half. (so one on each side and even DH doesnt mind) i dont see the point in goint and getting a fancy pregnancy pillow. go to walmart and get a 10 dollar body pillow. they work just as well i assure you. having baby being able to rest on something when your bump starts bumping out more makes a WORLD of difference in the night time.

  • If you can borrow one sure, othewise, it's pretty easy to just use regular pillows (more of them) and put them where you need them.

  • I have a Snoogle and I love it. I only sleep on my left side so rolling over isn't an issue for me.

  • When I was pregnant with DD, I bought an $5 body pillow at Walmart.  Best. Investment. Ever.
