scream during feedings?

over the past 2 weeks or so ds will go through these fits where while im giving him a bottle he will just start screaming his head off! i will take the bottle out, wait a second and reinsert it, and he calms down all for a few seconds but then continues to scream.

i try burping, changing his diaper, cycling his legs (to get rid of gas) but he still seems to do it.

any suggestions?

Re: scream during feedings?

  • maybe getting frustrated with the nipple.
  • Loading the player...
  • not getting enough through the nipple? or too much?
  • May be a bit of reflux. Try holding him upright and take the palm of your hand and rub up on his left side.

  • Is he on formula? DD did this until we switched to Enfamil Gentlease. Then she stopped. We tried to switch her back to normal Enfamil at 3 months and she did the same thing so now we're on Gentlease permanently, I suppose.

  • he;s on a preemie nipple now b/c he was spitting up a lot on a level 1, but maybe its time to switch. also, this is the 3rd formula we are trying. he started out on good start DHA & ARA, then we moved to enfamil gentlease, but got put on WIC and they wont cover the enfamil, so they put us on good start soy. however, hes done it with all the formulas, so i dont think its the formula.

  • Sounds like reflux to me.  Does he arch his back when he screams?  DD has reflux and Zantac really helps.

  • DS did this when I began switching from BM to formula. ?He was on Enfamil, and we switched to the gentle one. He does better now, but still has an occasional episode. Dr. thinks it may be a bit of mild reflux.
