August 2012 Moms

I've been MIA..and Dreft for STMs?

First! Congrats to all the August mama's who have had their babies! It is slightly painful for me as I still have 3 weeks to go! And, secondly, are STMs using dreft? I loved the smell and everything when I washed DD's clothes in it but it slowly became a huge hassle to do a separate  load for baby stuff, so started using free and clear. Now I buy whats on sale and a lot of the time it's scented..I've washed baby stuff in it but I'm wondering if I should go back and wash it all in Dreft/ a free and clear detergent.

  • I don't know where you live or if you have a Big Lots by you but I get all my detergent there! I buy All Free & Clear $3.80 a bottle and other free and clear brands are usually between $2.50-3.80 a bottle! If you can get there it will be totally worth it for the peace of mind I think.

  • I just wash in the normal detergent we have. DS has eczema and it doesn't bother him. If Adeline develops an allergy to detergent I'll do her clothes separately. I usually do DS's separately anyways, but I use the same detergent and softener as ours. Just a different load. But I'm not a big planner when it comes to laundry. I don't even separate our clothes from whites and darks. I probably will with Addy's dresses.

  • I am using Dreft...I did with ds and have washed dd clothes already. I like to keep their clothes separate at this age as I think their clothes are a different kind of dirty. I don't want to mix our old sweaty dirty with her cute baby dirty...LOL!

Haha, your right! Especially with my husband's sweaty, dirty stuff! Plus, it's always fun to do baby laundry (at first!)

  • I just use our normal scented stuff as well.

  • I'd wait to see if baby has any reaction to if first before you go ahead and rewash everything. I know lots of people who use regular detergent and are just fine. We use free and clear b/c i can't stand the smell of dreft, but switched to regular detergent when DS was about one.

  • I use what ever is on sale that day.  Even this time around I'll be using my regular detergent unless DS has problems.  Even then I'm too lazy to do separated laundry loads for each person.

  • My DH has sensitive skin, so we always use All Free & Clear or Arm & Hammer Free & Clear.  I prefer Arm & Hammer because it has a nice scent to it.  I've heard terrible things about Dreft, but I've never used it.

  • I ordered the detergent from honest.com (FREE of: SLS, synthetic perfume, glycol, enzymes, dyes, phosphates, 1,4-dioxane, chlorine, DEA, formaldehyde, petrochemicals, caustics, and optical brighteners and no animal testing).   I have very sensitive skin and I hate strong perfume in detergent, so it was a good choice for us.  I will wash all of her clothing separately  (says the woman whose baby has not yet been born).

  • I use All Free & Clear for DS, and now that I ran out of Tide I use it for us too.  I still wash his laundry separately, because it's easier for me to fold and put away.  I think Dreft is overpriced for what it is.

  • I used normal detergent with DS's laundry, and had no issues whatsoever. I plan on doing the same with this LO unless he has some kind of reaction.
