I am NOT trying castor oil. For various reasons... But someone just told me this and I had never heard that before. But it makes sense. I mean, if it works as a laxative for mom, why wouldn't it do the same for babies.. Anyone else heard this or experience with it?

Re: Castor oil leading to meconium?
Castor oil wont do it, neither will osmotic laxatives like miralax. What will increase the chance of baby passing meconium are stimulant laxatives like senna, or dulcolax which will pass through the blood and also stimulate babies gut and shouldnt be used late in pregnancy.

This is what I've heard too.
My doctor told me not to try any of those crazy things to induce labor, especially castor oil. Both he and the nurse told me that have seen castor oil cause some people serious pain and discomfort, and often times what they think are labor pains are really gas pains. It may not be dangerous, but would anyone want to do that to themselves anyway?
When you are approaching two weeks overdue there is a lot you would be willing to try. I took castor oil at 10 days overdue with DS and within 4 hours I was in labor, 6 hours after my water broke. There was no meconium issue and I did not end up with diarrhea or stomach cramps, aside from contractions. It was also recommended as an option to try by my Dr.
Exactly. And that's why I don't want to try it. That and it will probably make me throw up.
