Hi! I just wanted to let you know about psychic post I wasn't in anyway putting down addiction counselors or saying they do drugs.  I just don't think it would be for me.  I went to school for four years for an Accounting/Finance degree and I'd hate to waste the money my parents spent on school.  Another thing is that one of my cousin's, who used to be my best friend is currently addicted to prescritption pain killers... she's not at all the type of person I would of expected to get into drugs, because of her past (both of her parents were drug addicts and she saw first hand what it did to her relationship with them and I don't think she'd want to follow in that path.).  I am so angry at her for becoming the person she swore she would never become.

I think I would get aggrevated with the addicts and I wouldnt be the person they'd want/need to talk to, becaue unfortuantley I am not understanding when it comes to that stuff.  I wish I was, but I'm not.

I am so greatful for people out there like you who are understanding and willing to help people with addictions.  There needs to be more people like you. :)

  • Haha oh no I didn't take offense at all! I was just saying that at one point I felt the same way; I couldn't see myself ever doing something like this (well eventually...if I EVER graduate).  I was more so playing devil's advocate to the idea of the psychic saying that about your future career lol, but thank you for the kind words!

  • When I mentioned it to my mom, she said "Well you would be good working with people..."  SO it did put a thought in my head about it, but how much school does it involve? A Bachelors?

Good luck with it!! What amde you decide to go into this field?

  • Well I'm going for my Bachelor's now but I know you have to be certified. You have to work so many hours to be certified with different associations. Of course there are probably some places that want you to have a Masters and when I get done with this I'll contemplate going back but right now I just want to graduate! I've been going to college since I was 18 (I'll be 25 this year) and after 3 major changes I'm just ready to be done and have a career!

I decided to change my major after meeting my husband and hearing his story. His mom was addicted to drugs and his dad was an alcoholic. He had a rough childhood and hearing about it broke my heart but he overcame it all. I decided I wanted to help people in his situation and by becoming an Addiction's counselor hopefully I can break the cycle for an addict and improve not only his or her life but their child's life as well. I also didn't have the patience to be a teacher, I discovered after nearly completing my degree. lol Oh well, you live and you learn!
