IVF consult what to expect?

I was originally scheduled for my IVF consult for the end of the month. I got a call today that someone cancelled so it has been rescheduled for Friday I?m wicked excited to get the ball rolling again. Anyways I am just wondering what to expect from our meeting, and how long after your consult did you start your IVF cycle?

TIA!

We had already gone to the IVF informational session, so the consult was just the RE offering to answer any questions we had from that, and discussing our protocol.  He went over my blood work results and discussed doing the short protocol and what we would expect.  He also did a mock transfer that day.  We started the cycle as soon as AF showed.  Good luck!

Mine was pretty straightforward.  We went through all of our test results, talked about options (because I guess it was more of a 'next steps' consult').  He laid out the protocol for both IUI and IVF and what each process would be, and said to feel free to discuss and then let him know.  I also met with an IVF coordinator that day and she gave me the calendar and the IVF schedules for the rest of the year.  Once we decided on IVF for sure, we just had to wait for AF to start everything.

    Good luck!!

Skylar Elena and Hollyn Isabella... our two beautiful blessings arrived April 18, 2013!

For us, one thing that was helpful was that I had my ob/gyn send all of my records over already. That way, by the time we had our consult, he was already familiar with where we'd been, what we'd tried. I made it clear to him that I was in the middle of a cycle, and wanted to continue with our plan for another IUI during that cycle. He was certainly amenable to that.

He then went over what additional testing he would recommend prior to us coming up with a game plan---such as the HSG test. I hadn't yet had one, so we had to do that, and it's a cycle-sensitive procedure, so we had to make sure to schedule it appropriately.

They explained IVF, ICSI, and Assisted Hatching.

One thing I wish I'd asked up front: if we proceed with IVF, what labs are mandatory prior to the process. Why? Because many of those labs have already been performed at my place of employment or by my PCP. It's so much easier (and cheaper!) to just have the information faxed that re-do a test.

Cost: Go over this. I have heard of some offices doing package deals, of two IVF rounds for a certain price.... Ours does a pay-for-service type of thing. Everything is an individual cost. So, you might touch on cost, and don't be shy about going over those things. It may be kind of weird....but the reality is: is part of it.

For our IVF consult, we met in a really nice conference room. It was the Andrologist/Embryologist, the RE, and the nurse coordinator....and us.

    :)

    Good luck.
