Yes, you would need to lanolize the wool, but you can use it several times before you have to rewash it as long as you air dry it between uses. Fleece should only be used once and can be washed w/regular laundry.
Like the PP mentioned, the main difference is that fleece needs to be washed after each wear, wool can be worn and then air dried for weeks before it needs to be washed.
Wool does need to be handwashed though.

Hand washing is no big deal. I'd technically need 3 fleece covers if I'm washing everyother day but I could get away with only 1 wool cover if I hand wash early in the morning and dry it infront of a floor fan or ceiling fan.
