Maternity Pants help

I really need to get some maternity pants for work but I am having a hard time finding ones that fit right.  I'm just a little too big for XL in regular maternity and the plus size pants were way big.  Has anyone had any luck finding a good fit when you are a little on the bigger side (specifically your thighs)?  Thanks!

Re: Maternity Pants help

  • The maternity pants at motherhood are all pretty stretchy, so maybe those would work for you-good luck!

  • Can't really help with the sizing only to say that it's ridiculously frustrating! I went maternity shopping with my mom this weekend and even in my size of interest, there were some that were way too small and some that were huge.  They need more standardization. Good luck! I liked the consignment shops that we went to because it allowed me to try on a bunch of different brands and styles all in one trip. I'm disappointed because she has a lot of shops like that in my hometown, but we have none where I live =(
  • I got a pair of maternity pants at Old Navy & they're awesome. I'm not sure what size they go up to & they're really reasonably priced.
  • Old Navy maternity pants are sized big. I usually wear a size 6-8 with them, ordered size 6 maternity pants, and they are still huge, especially in the hip/thigh area which is where I carry most of my weight. They are also doing 20% off your total purchase right now + free shipping over $50.

  • I'm a size 16 & got my whole maternity wardrobe off Craigslist for $150, and I've noticed the Motherhood pants have pretty roomy legs. Duo Maternity (I think that's JC Penney's brand) seems to fit pretty well too. GL!

    Dear Baby Pacheco...
  • Would an XL fit if they were cut to be loose around the thighs? I bought 2 pairs of work slacks from Kohl's specifically because they were wide leg; I'm curvier than most and my other maternity pants are tight to the point that if I were to swell any further in the thighs they wouldn't fit. I expect these pants to last to whole pregnancy and they are very professional and flattering.

  • I'm struggling with work pants too! I share your pain!  I'm a size 12 regularly for pants and have still been using my regular pants with a hairband as a hold over.

I tried on multiple styles of dress pants at Motherhood, but they were seriously like spandex pants on my thighs and butt. There's no way it would be appropriate at my work place - we're supposed to be in suits Mon-Thurs and business casual on Fridays.

I ordered a pair from Old Navy online, but they arrived and same problem - too tight on butt and thigh area. So I just sent those back by mail.

I'm hoping to check out JCP and Sears to see what they have and when I have some free time, I'm going to check out some various maternity consignment.  If that all fails, then I have seen A Pea in the Pod's website and they appear to have more suitlike work pants...but they are expensive, so that's my last option.

Good luck and let us know if you do find something that works!!

  • I have a few wide legged gap pants. They are amazingly comfortable and stretchy. Like being in pjs at work! Not sure how expensive though. Found these at my savers for $7.

  • I got a pair on sale from gap.com and they had an additional 25% off. They are standard black work slacks and are perfect for the office. I cannot wear the stretchy pants to work or even leggings so I was really concerned about finding works pants. In gap I am 14 pre pregnancy so I ordered the pants in 14, 16 and 18. I kept the 16, although big, so I would have room to grow. I haven't worn them yet because I still fit into my regular pants..sorta ;). I also ordered jeans which I'm pretty happy with as well.

I am having a hard time with work shirts and a black blazer. Good Luck and DEF shop the sales!!!
