Anyone else waiting to start nursery?

I normally am such a planner, but for some reason am in no hurry to start the nursery. We have two spare bedrooms, either of which will work for the baby's room, but aside from throwing color ideas around I have done nothing. Just me?

I will be 18 weeks on Wednesday, so maybe it's still a tad early?

Re: Anyone else waiting to start nursery?

  • We aren't starting painting or anything until we find out the sex even though the color scheme we are planning will be used either way. I feel like we have plenty of time.

  • We have started to plan but have not purchased anything for baby yet. We have started to look at furniture and I think I know what we want but we just haven't made any progress yet in buying or ordering. We plan to order furniture from DirectBuy and it can take several weeks sometimes as much as 10 weeks for it to come in. I feel like we should order sooner rather than later just in case.

MIL was up this weekend and asking if I planned to paint for baby and I really don't. We just moved into a brand new house and all the walls are nicely painted and I see no reason to paint over it. I think we can do a lot by adding pictures and items to the room for baby.

  • We aren't doing a nursery. Baby will be sleeping in our room with me for at least the first six months and by May we're PCSing so it just seems pointless to try to do a room for baby just to pack it up. I'm eager to see what you guys will do though!

  • My brother is currently living in our will be nursery so we are not in any rush to get started. I will probably start buying stuff after we find out the sex and just hold onto it until my brother moves out in December.

This.  Doesn't mean I'm not wasting lots of time online dreaming and planning, though! :)

We are also thinking baby will be in our room for 6 months, as well.

  • I hope I don't get a strong nesting feeling because I don't have a nursery! Our situation is weird I know we'll be moving when LO is about 4-6 months old so we just have a 1BR [small] apartment until then.

DH and I will be visiting in-laws in September and MIL has already stated she wants to buy crib. Something tells me we will be shopping then.

  • I think I have nursery paralysis... the whole thing is so overwhelming I'm just terrified to start!  But I'm a Type A planner so I'm making myself start this month.  The most I've done so far is pick out paint samples.

  • I've been in a baby mood lately, we actually painted the nursery and assembled the cribs/changing table this weekend. I wanted it put together before my shower (9/1). We'll gradually decorate it over the next two months. I wanted the big things done though.

There is plenty of time so I wouldn't sweat it, it's better to do it when you're in the mood to do it, than to make yourself do it when you're not - then it'll feel like a chore and won't be as fun. Smile

  • DH and I went and looked at cribs one day, just to get some ideas, but other than that the two of us haven't done anything.  One of my firends is Team Green and due in November and this weekend they put their crib together and the rooms been painted - that made me more curious so I started looking and some more options online, but DH won't decide on anything until after out A/S scan (Aug 30th).  Then it's going to be go go go time!

  • I haven't really spent so much time even thinking about it all. I've been so nervous about the pregnancy that I don't think I'll relax until after the anatomy scan. Plus we have so much work to do on the ENTIRE house that it's hard to concentrate on just the baby room.

Maybe I'll start looking at ideas..

This. We will be PCSing when little one is 3 months old, so until then we will all be in a one bedroom. However, that said, when we get to our next place i am absolutely doing a nursery. Even though LO will be sleeping with us for probably 6 months.

  • We have just started doing some very preliminary research about furniture, but we haven't decided which room we're going to use yet and painting will be unnecessary. So I guess we're not in a hurry either. I think we will probably wait until after the A/S to really get started.

  • To set up the baby's room, we have to move a futon, desk and boxes from our third floor condo out to a truck and take that to our public storage space so...we're waiting until it's a little less hot to get the room cleaned out, let alone buy/set up furniture and decorate.  My goal is to have the room cleaned out by September and use Oct-Dec. to really do the nursery.

  • Since we are team green, we are waiting to really do a lot in the nursery. Baby will be in our room for at least a few months so I am in no hurry to get everything done in the nursery. We are re-doing our 3rd bedroom for DS and moving him by Christmas. After that we will order the new nursery furniture (DS is staying in his covertable crib) and set it up. We will wait until after baby arrives to settle on theme and paint if we need to.

  • DH and I looked at different nursery themes this weekend, but we haven't bought anything for the nursery. We do have PLENTY of time.

  • Nursery is actually all done if we have a girl since it was ready for our DD who was due in January.  If we have a boy, we will have a bit of work to do repainting but that is going to wait until we find out what we are having.

  • We won't be doing anything with our nursery until possibly after the baby is born. When I was pregnant with Robby we started getting it ready at about 15 weeks. So, the room is painted and we have all the furniture, but I just can't stand the thought of having to pack everything up again.

  • We are not in a huge hurry.  It will be gender specific so we can't do anything for 3 more weeks anyway.  Even then, we won't need a nursery for quite awhile.

Our office/guest room/catch all room will become the nursery and I should probably start cleaning it out.  A couple weeks ago I moved everything out of the closet so I can start storing the hand me downs and small gifts that we have received, but now all of that stuff is just scattered across the room.

We do have PLENTY of time.

I was thinking this, but then I saw several people on the weekly check-in talking about working on the nursery. It had me wondering if I had missed starting the timeline! :)

  • I actually want to get it done pretty early. We have a ton of work to do on the rest of our house, so I'd like to get the nursery out of the way. We are getting an Ikea crib, new ceiling fan & rug, but have everything else from DD.

The large canvas print I ordered is coming Wednesday. We are going to pick a paint color this week. I'd like to do something dark and subdued. I'd also like it to be gender less, so I want to pick it our before our a/s the 16th.

DD's room is a bold indigo/purple color that I love, but I want to go a different direction w this one. Her's: https://www.86nit.com/2010/02/nursery.html

  • We are waiting for the results of the anatomy scan so we know the gender (and that everything is okay with the baby). Then we'll get started.

I love how the room can grow with your oldest daughter. We are thinking of doing a more gender-neutral with less of a character-type theme as well. .
  • I'm a huge planner but we are waiting until this fall. We have plenty of other things on our to do lists before starting the nursery.

  • We aren't going to do anything until we know who we're having (next month!!).  If we have another boy, we will reuse DS's crib as we will have the boys in the same room eventually.  If we have a girl we will probably get new furniture for her (DH wants white 'girly' furniture).  The room in already empty (we just moved and never put anything in the room), and has fresh paint.  We'll probably do an accent wall when we start getting the nursery ready, but we really don't have much to do.

  • We've ordered our nursery furniture already (mainly because my parents paid for it and found a sale at BRU) and this weekend we just sold the furniture set that was in our spare room to make space for it.  Other than that, we probably won't do much until after our A/S on the 20th.  I don't plan to do anything super-girly or super-masculine either way, but I do want to know the gender before I start buying stuff.  Plus we're out of town every weekend between now and September 15, so I don't have time to do much yet anyway!

  • Finding out the sex in 2.5 weeks, and then we'll get going. I know I want the same paint color as DD's room for continuity on our second floor.

Then I  need to figure out a rocker/changing table/dresser. As for a crib, our DD will be 4 months away from turning 2 years old when baby arrives, so we are going to borrow my parents' brand new crib to get us over that hurdle and let her stay in a crib until she's ready to transition to a "big girl bed". I don't want to buy a crib for 4 months or a little longer.

I didn't get started on my nursery with my first baby until I was 20 weeks and it worked out fine timing wise. I need a sex and a name in my head before I can plan the look and feel of the room.  I was very proud of my nursery last time, because it all came together very beautifully and cohesively, but it was a little Craigs List, a little Buy Buy Baby, a little Amazon, a little Etsy, a little Walmart, a little Target, and some DIY.  Not sets, no matchy matchy, just pretty page pink-yellow-white-and-green all coming together.

  • We're just waiting until summer is over! We don't currently have AC in the room that will be the nursery (will buy a window unit for next year).  So anything that requires movement in that room will have to wait until we're back into 70 degree weather!

  • We are waiting until we find out sex on the 24th. This is our first child and honestly, everything has been a little overwhelming. I think once I know whether it's boy or girl, I will be able to start planning. We haven't bought anything yet, besides a bassinet and a baby sling. We can't even agree on names, so I think again finding out sex will definitely help with that!

  • We've not done anything except pick color. But we've done nothing with our color selection. Baby won't really even have a room until after we move next summer prior to that she'll have a cosleeper and a dresser/changing table that will go in our guest room.

That has been us as well. Also, you are ahead of me. We have bought a onesie. We do have the names chosen, but that's about it. I have spent more time researching BF, clothing diapering, labor, etc.

Additionally, I am a graduate student and work full time, so school has preoccupied a good bit of my free time.

  • Don't worry about not being in a hurry to start the nursery. In fact, if you are planning on having a baby shower, you may wanna wait to see what you receive from your shower registry before you buy the rest.

I find out my baby's sex on the 24th, and I plan to IMMEDIATELY go shopping for the items I need. I don't wanna ask my shower guests for the big ticket items, and Im anxious to get a start on the room.

  • Me!  I've been Pinteresting though for colors and designs I like...as we don't find out the sex until the end of the month.  Our room is also currently our office/ cat box room so it needs a thourough emptying and deep cleaning in the next months.
