H's boss tried to deny his time off when baby comes

So H's company has a blackout period from mid August to mid September. He's worked there for 14 years and I seriously hadn't heard of this being enforced for YEARS! I worked there for about 10 years a while back too.
So H finally told his boss when he was taking vacation (he's going to take the week I come home from the hospital and work a bunch of half days the week I'm in the hospital). His boss comes back and says "that's blackout, you can't take it" H says he hasn't heard of that being blackout in forever and yes he is taking the week off. His boss says you better give me a very compelling reason and gets all snotty like "go ahead try me". H gave him the reason and his boss says so I guess you're taking vacation that week LOL.
H is on the short list for a promotion and HATES to be difficult on anything but I swear to Christ if he wusses out on any of the time off I'll kill him

I agree about the late notice.
Today, Steph and I will agree on EVERYTHING!
LOL...yes it was the first time but H has had THREE different bosses in the time I've been pg and this guy has only been around for about a month. They realign stores CONSTANTLY in this company but this year has been ridiculous. He had told the other two but that doesn't much matter now!
Yeah, it's actually tough on him bc they really DO.NOT.give.2.shi*ts about your home life. Since I have the vagina, his old boss expected I'd be the one to stay home after baby #2 came. Uh, where are we 1950? I make significantly more $$ so that's not happening!

agreed! Even with the craziness with bosses being switched, etc, if I were him I still would have told the new boss right off the bat.
My DH started a new job in May, and somehow he and his new boss were talking about the LO during the interview. Granted she had just had her 2nd LO in January so she was all excited, but still. His boss has known about his need for a short leave since day <1.
Glad to hear that his boss seemed to change his tune once he heard the reason!
oh absolutely! I was surprised to a) hear about the supposed blackout period and b) that H was all about telling them he was taking the time. I'm surprised he didn't come back to me and say 'weeeelllllll, I'm not going to take the whole week' Grrr! I get that he wants to advance but some of the stuff he gives in to is just a little much. And I fully blame him for it, not the job. Even though it would be a little nicer if they were a little more family friendly.

No, he's a restaurant GM. I'm actually a retail GM and our blackout is 6 weeks from mid August to end September but that's b/c we're a huge back to school retailer. Gonna miss that. Oops
