Recommendations for co-sleeping?

DH and I are starting to research bassinets, but I see that the weight limits are usually pretty low. I'd like to get something we can continue to use, as we want baby to stay with us for as long as possible.

Any co-sleeper options you love, or hate? Thanks!

  • A Pack  n' Play always works...or you could just use your bed. No weight limit there :)

  • So scared to share the bed! I know, it's irrational. First time mommy so I'm terrified of everything!

    I have a feeling we'll try it though ;)

  • We have the Arms Reach Mini Convertible Co-Sleeper and love it.  Our baby is small, so she will fit in it for quite some time.  Plus, this particular one can convert into a small playard later.  Also, if you get the full-sized (not mini) co-sleeper, they all convert to playards so you don't have to buy two different items.

this. it is a must. we borrowed this time and love it so much we will uy one for next baby. So nice to reach right over to grab baby for nursing or to pop binky in.
  • I ended up with all mine in bed with me. It makes nursing in the night time much more convenient! I've got a king size bed, so that may be why it's more comfortable. Arm's reach is great too.

Seriously, having a king-size bed is the best thing for co-sleeping. So. Much. Room.

We just used a crib in our room, or had them sleep in our bed. Nothing fancy!

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • We eventually just bought the King size bed here.  BUT, only b/c my son wouldn't sleep even in the co-sleeper by the bed.  We did try that first.  I would recommend the Arm's Reach co-sleeper, full size.  The bassinet on it goes to 30 lb (whereas the Chicco and Graco PnP bassinets only go to 15 lb...and my son was over 15 lb by 3 months!).  And the co-sleeper converts to a play yard and portable crib, just like a PnP.  Much more diverse than a PnP.

  • We have the Arms reach mini co sleeper, but DS usually ended up in our bed, and still does.
  • We used the Arm's Reach convertible mini as well, but we had to switch to a rock-n-play pretty quickly because of his reflux. Once that resolved we had him in the AR or in bed with me. For me, bedsharing became much less intimidating as he got older. I did it sometimes as a nb, but I was always nervous. Now I don't really worry at all.  If the next baby doesn't have reflux, I'll use the AR for the first 2-3 months then bedshare until we're ready for the crib.

  • Thank you all so much for your input! I have to say, this board is always so welcoming and helpful :)

My friend just offered up her rock and play... Who doesn't love a freebie??? I think we may use that until we're comfortable with baby in the bed with us. Seems like its a nice height to keep next to the bed.

We realized that we really have no plans to create a nursery because we want to keep baby with us. So, what's one more in the bed? ;)

I think the RNP is a great idea!  When our son wasn't keen on the co-sleeper at all, but I was still too paranoid to have him in the bed with us, the RNP was what we used.  Since we upgraded to a King size bed, we don't have space for a PNP, so #2 will go right into the RNP, and then into our bed when he's a little bigger.  I think that's a good solution :)

Bedsharing didn't work for us at first because I was so nervous and couldn't get any sleep.  The RNP was amazing and we used it for the first 5 months.  We started bed sharing recently and it is working so well for us now.  I think this is a great plan!

  • We put a changing table mattress in the bed with my husband and I. It is soft so we aren't uncomfortable with it in the bed with us. My son can sleep all the way through the night in it, and I can reach him easily. We have a queen bed, so its a little cramped, but worth it to have him so close and if either of us need to get up in the night, it doesn't disturb him at all, because he can't feel the bed move.
