I was reading on my OB's webpage some FAQ. and one of them was about when they circumcise. It said that my doctor won't circumcise the baby at the hospital. It said that we have to wait 2 weeks and have our pediatrician do it. Is this a new policy? I always thought it was done at the hospital.
Re: Circumcision question?
BFP#1 on 02/14/09 BIRTH to Mason 6lb9oz on 10/12/09
BFP#2 on 5/28/11 EDD 2/1/12 Natural M/C on 6/13/11
BFP#3 on 1/20/12 EDD 9/30/12 Natural m/c on 1/27/12
BFP#4 on 4/23/12 BIRTH to Isabella 7lb1oz on 12/19/12
It must depend on the hospital. Ours was done the day after he was born in the hospital by the OB.
There is only one doc in our whole province who performs circumcisions at this point, and he's so old that quite honestly I'm not interested in his services. DS will not be circ'd.

Ours does it at the hospital
Depends on pediatrician. 2 out of the 4 pedis at my office will do it at the hospital. Or, you can do it at the first newborn appt at the pedi office (about 3-4 days post birth) or you can wait however long (some wait 8 days for religious reasons...).
If you don't like it, ask the hospital if they have a pedi on staff that does it at the hospital. I find it odd that they wouldn't.

Interesting. Never heard this. I work in a pediatrician office and our docs actually notice that the exertion can sometimes push the baby to latch and suckle more immediately following the circ. So, if you're having trouble getting baby interested in the breast this might help. I'm curious which is true.
EDIT TO ADD: https://www.cirp.org/library/birth/mohrbacher1/ Did not know about this research. Personally, we had the opposite affect, both with heel pricks, blood draws and immunizations. Seemed to make baby more interested in latching.

I had read somewhere that it was best to wait at least 8 days after the baby's birth to do it, but I forget the reason as to why that was.
Us too.
