Anyone else had swelling yet? I'm almost 18 weeks and also a first-time mom but I just figured I wouldn't have any swelling until the 3rd tri. I noticed it about 3 days ago (pain-wise), it's not really very visible but I had some pain in my calves/ankles, in which it's hard to stretch my feet out, like it feels tight--if that makes sense. I'm just wondering if I maybe had too much sodium over the last few days and I also have a desk job which I'm wondering if that also can also contribute to swelling.
Re: Swelling
I had awful swelling in my ankles and feet last week. (With my first I only had swelling in the 3rd trimester so this surprised me) We had just got back from a trip to Michigan where it's hot, humid, and I don't like the taste of the water (and I also had a 4 hour plane ride).
I drank a TON of water for the next few days, put my feet up whenever possible and went to water aerobics at my gym and it was gone after about 2 days.
Good luck, swelling is painful and gross!
I had swelling in my feet and ankles yesterday from standing for three hours straight while teaching. It was NO FUN! I had to lay with my feet on the back of the couch for a while to get it to stop feeling like they were about to fall off.
Do you have a foot stool you can prop your feet up on? I use a box full of books under my desk to keep my legs some what elevated.
Sitting is worse for your body that hard labor I think. Humans aren't built to be sedentary and it is SO hard on your body to just be still. We should be stretching and moving. My OB said I should get up every half hour and walk, go to the bathroom, get a drink, something. My ophthalmologist said the same, take lots of breaks or your eyes will deteriorate.
