Does anyone have experience with getting a baby passport? I know we'll need one by the time LO is 5 months old. Does it work the same way as mine - I just take LO to CVS and prop up it's head? They grow so fast that young the photo seems silly!
I took my son to get a passcard. We won't be traveling beyond Canada until he's much older. But the passport is only good for 5 years, and is 80 bucks or such. This is also why we only got a passcard instead... Since it's only 15$. We found out later that you only need both to cross in Canada or permission from the other parent not crossing. Hope this helped :-)
Yeah that is how it works. Seems silly but that is how they do it. Here you have to get the passport app sent from the post office. They take pictures there too. Usually they have a white blanket and have mom hold baby so they can get the picture without anything in the back ground.

Yes. We got DD a passport at 6 weeks. That was hard bc she couldn't prop her head up yet, so DH had to hold her head in the picture. The picture is hilarious! You see DD's face, and then underneath is DH's hairy hands. We have a copy hanging on the fridge bc it's so funny.
Anyway, either both parents have to go and sign together, or you have to bring something signed by the child's father (probably notarized) that he consents to the passport.
We went to our local library, bc the post office camera wasn't working that day.
We got DS's picture done at walgreens (he was 3 mos). They put down white poster board on the counter, we laid him on that and they snapped the picture. It was actually really easy! But yes, the whole process seems incredibly silly as he looks nothing like the picture on his passport anymore!
Yep, pretty much it's like getting a normal adult passport. We had a family trip out of the country this summer and my SIL and brother had to get one for their baby that was 6 months at the time of the trip. Just a warning that it took 45 minutes just to get the picture. Baby had to be looking at the camera, not smiling or showing the inside of it's mouth, no drool allowed, hands down, etc.... It literally took 45 minutes to get a shot that was good enough. So plan for extra time when getting the picture taken!

Because there had never been anyone like you... ever in the world." ~ Nancy Tillman

My cousin just took her 18 month old to Canada and she only needed birth certificate for her and a letter from her husband giving permission for her to take their daughter out of the country and a contact number.
If you are going on a plane out of country (even Canada) a baby needs a passport. We got DD's picture taken when she was 3 weeks old, we tried to have DH hold her head up, but it didn't work so we ended up laying her down on a white background at walmart. It was quite the process. We flew when she was 8 weeks old. You fill out the same forms pretty much as an adult passport. (in Canada anyways)
I went to get my passport photo last Friday and there was a 4 week old baby getting hers done ahead of us. They put her in a basket with a white blanket and they couldn't have anyone's hands in the photo so they kept moving her head in place and then trying to get the photo before it moved to the side. It was funny to watch 'cause it took about 6 tries while we were there. Baby kept looking at mom. I would have found it super frustrating.

We took our own picture. There are guidelines on the requirements on the passport website like the background and clothing color. Then we used www.idphoto4you.com to size it and sent it to get printed. They accepted it no problem. DD was about 2 months old at the time, so we layed her on a white sheet on the floor to take the pictures.

Good to know!

A passport picture, and birth certificate is what we needed.
