Smash cake and infant photographer

Re: Smash cake and infant photographer

  • We used Jen :Lowe and I would highly recommend her!  She was our wedding photographer and now she has become our family photographer.  We have gotten professional pictures done with Jen about once every 6 months since my 2 year old daughter was born.  Her pictures are amazing.

You can get a smash cake pretty much anywhere.  For my daughter we decided to get her a fancy cupcake from the local bakery.  Weis supermarkets used to give you a free 6" cake for your child's first birthday.  I don't know if they still do that or not.

  • For A's smash cake pictures I used another bumpie who takes beautiful pictures. And I made the smash cake (I actually bought the pan from BB&B for $20.00).

I've booked Jen Lowe for this little one's newborn photos in September. We've used Jen for two family photo shoots and couldn't possibly love her (and her work) more than we already do!

A friend just used Nicole Renee for her infant daughter's photos and though I've only seen the previews so far, they're lovely. She has an in-home studio in HarCo.

Twiddle Dee is highly, highly recommended by the folks I know who have used her. Her prices are high, just be fore-warned.

Just an FYI, Twiddle Dee is exclusively newborn photography.  We did really love the newborn photos she did for us though.

Not to hijack, but can someone PM me on roughly what a family session with Jen Lowe costs (and what is included)?  She is obviously very highly recommended here, and I'm considering family photos around LO's birthday in October.

  • I use Tracy Marshall Photography and am a huge fan. Her "mentor" mentored under Jen Lowe so they have similar styles. :) I have never worked w/ Jen Lowe but have only heard good things!

  • For smash cakes you can get a little cake in pretty much any grocery store. Giant has some tiny cakes and so does Food Lion and others. Or you can be fancy and make your own.

As for the pictures themselves. I do Newborn and Children Photography (www.forever-yesterday.com) but there are also many others in the area. I have heard of most of the photographers posted above and I am sure everyone does great work. I would look through all the websites and go by who's style and price you feel is the best fit for you

The OP asked about infant photographers, so that's why I threw out Twiddle Dee.

I don't have a price list for Jen Lowe handy. The newborn photos I'm doing with her are around $400 for 2+ hours of time, in my home. She'll do photos with my older daughter and the baby, photos of my husband and I with the kids, etc. We'll get all of the images, edited, on DVD and 4x6" prints of each image, plus the print release.

We did a large family session with her last fall that involved 13 people and 2+ hours of shooting at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. Because of the extra people involved, I believe the total for the session was over $500. We split it among the families. We got the images, edited, on DVD and 4x6" prints of each image, plus print release. We had almost 200 photos from that session.

And finally, the prior fall we did one of her mini-sessions and it was around $200 for a 30-minute quick session at a historic mill in our area. Again, all images, edited, on DVD and 4x6" prints of each plus print release. We had 70 photos from that 30 minute session.

Thanks so much. You're right, OP did say infant photographer. I saw smash cake and made the assumption she was considering 1 year photos, which isn't necessarily the case.

  • I used Courtney Anton Photography for our newborn session and was so thrilled with those images that I immediately scheduled the one year session too.  She even includes the smash cake in the package for that session.
