RnP? PnP? Twin PnP?

I'd like to have the twins sleep in my room for the first few months, what do you recommend? I saw a twin PnP with two bassinets. Is this a good idea? If you use a regular PnP/RnP do the babies sleep in the bassinet part together or the elevated crib part? I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm a FTM and confused by all the options! What do you recommend?

Re: RnP? PnP? Twin PnP?

  • We had 2 RnPs that we kept next to our bed.  They fold up easily, are slanted for reflux and are easily washable.  The PnP worked well but we went exclusively to the Rnp when the reflux issues arose.  I have no experience with the twin bassinets.  We did not consider them after the reviews I saw here.
U/S#1 showed 2 heartbeats! U/S#2 showed Baby A's heartbeat was 157 and Baby B 's heartbeat was 183! U/S#4 showed Baby A is a Boy (heartbeat 161) and Baby B is a Girl (heartbeat 159)!! Lilypie Second Birthday tickers
  • I am pretty much set on getting a PnP for the downstairs area...but my question is, how long can they stay in the bassinet part of it? I think it only holds up to 15 pounds?  Did anyone else use a PnP with changing station (not in the bedroom)?

  • Overall I haven't heard very good reviews on the twin PnP. It also seems really pricey considering how soon they'd outgrow it. I'd go with RnPs or maybe two mini co-sleepers. You could have them share a PnP bassinet but that works better for some twins than others.

  • It depends on your baby. It was and still is trial and error for us. We have 2 RnP's, one PnP and a Moses style bassinet from our older DD. they did not like sleeping in the PnP at first. My baby a doesnt like to sleep flat on her back so she did well in the RnP. My baby b will only sleep next to me in bed. Now that they are bigger, baby A wants to be flat so she no longer likes the RnP. She sleeps on her tummy in the bassinet. Baby B likes to spread out on herback, so she is now in the PnP. We are about to transition them to their cribs. Probably should have done that a long time ago bc they map there great. It's all day to say survival over here lol.

Yeah, the bassinets on most models only go up to 15 lbs though there might be some exceptions. That's why we did the Arm's Reach Original Cosleeper instead; the weight limit was either 30 or 40 lbs (I forget now). My boys reached a combined 15 lbs by the time they were maybe 3 weeks old. (They were 6.10 and 6.7 at birth.)

  • Thanks for the help! Now that I've done some more research, some sites say that RnPs aren't safe for overnight use....has anyone heard this? Or know why?
  • I was told in my multiples class that the twin PNP was a bad idea because once they get big enough the middle sinks in.  they should be sleeping head to head or i guess feet to feet.

We have 2 Rock N Plays in our room.  It doesn't take up a lot of space and they love it.

We started out with 1 PNP though.  Since they were preemies, they shouldn't sleep on an incline until they are full term.

  • FWIW we used a regular PnP for the first 5 months and they shared sleeping in the top part. The weight limit was the typical 16lbs I think, but combined they were above this and it was totally fine. They couldn't sit up or anything and it was sturdy and didn't sag, so it worked really well. They slept side by side, sideways, with the "head" side raised on books for their reflux. And we used rolled up towels, rubberbanded top keep them rolled, as the little "U" shape to keep them from sliding down because of the incline. At 5 months we moved them into 1 crib in our room then at 6 months into their 2 cribs in their room. They napped apart from early on though.
