December 2011 Moms

for those whose DD has pierced ears

i'm thinking of doing it at my 9 month appt as long as i don't chicken out. the pedi office does it & she isn't getting any shots that appt so i figure i should do it then.

what age did you pierce & did your LO play with them? how long did she cry?

Re: for those whose DD has pierced ears

  • CC got hers done a little after 5 months. She also got it done at the pedi's office.

I actually had my mom take her because 1. I had to work and 2. I was a punk about having to see her cry.

My mom did say that CC cried hard BUT she said it was short lived and ended shortly after the second earring was in. She gave her a bit of tylenol in advance to help with any residual pain. CC was ok after that and no, she doesn't really play with the earrings.

She'd much rather play with the hoop earrings I wear, while they are still in my ear lobe ! LOL

  • I'm wondering about this too. We were planning on doing it at 6m but never got around to it, now that she is 8m I'm worried that it is too late and she will be constantly pulling on them. I told my husband if we are going to do it has to be in the next few weeks because I feel like now the older she gets the harder it will be.

This exactly!  I definitely want to get it done soon so she doesn't notice them.

  • We had Charlotte's ears done in May, when she was five and a half months old. We went in for a seperate visit just for that reason and they charged $60. She still doesn't even know she has them. Or if she does, she isn't bothered by them at all.

She cried when they were doing the prep. As soon as they swabber her ears with the alcohol wipes, she started screaming as loud as she could. Once they actually pierced her ears, she stopped crying. She's so dramatic. Stick out tongue

My pedi office said they only pierce up to six months old and won't do it after that age until around 2-3 years old.

  • We had E's ears down at 2 months at the Pedi's office. We had to clean them 3 times a day for 6 weeks and we still turn them everyday. Besides that she only cried for a second, I think it was the shock and she has never pulled at them or even noticed them for that matter. I also have a 2 yr. old Son, who has no interest in pulling them either! I thought that would be an issue, thank goodness it isn't!

You can buy tiny studs at Nordstrom and James Avery once the initial 6 weeks is up and you are able to switch.

  • She got them done at 3 months. She didnt/doesnt play with them and she only cried for a minute. When we got home I gave her a bit of tylenol and she was just as happy as she was that morning.

  • 1 month. She barely cried and we never had a problem.

  • I had Ts done when she was a little over 5 months.  We just went to Claire's in the mall. She did not cry on the first ear, she cried about 30 seconds on the 2nd ear.  She has never touched them.  I dont think she realizes she has them.

I think I toook it harder than she did.  Luckily, my mom was with us and she held her.  I was barely able to watch.
