Does anyone use it? Does it really work? DH and I are looking to cut more money out of our spending because right now we are saving like crazy.
This would cut another $40 off our cell phone bills. Just wondering if it's too good to be true?
For those that don't know it's an unlimited prepaid service for $50 a month
Re: NBR: Straight Talk (Cell phone service)
I don't have it but we are changing to it next month. My sister does have it though and I will tell you what I know about it. There is actually a family plan also that would make it cheaper than $50 a month for each phone, I think it ends up being $35 or $40 a phone if I'm not mistaken.
I would not purchase one of their phones, as you probably know you can use almost any phone that takes a sim card. I would recommend getting a TMobile phone though, because they are partnered with them. Since they are partnered with them it's unlikely that there will be anything that doesn't work on the phone. I have seen people say using other phones from say At&t, some apps will not work with Straight Talk. Another thing to consider when picking a phone is if you get a TMobile phone that has hotspot, you can use it automatically since it's installed on the phone and you have a hotspot through your phone no matter where you go. So if you have a tablet, computer, etc... you can connect through your phones internet.
Bottom line, she lives in BFE and said that the service works amazing even out in the middle of nowhere.
We have it! We didn't care about having "cool" phones so we went on-line and ordered one of the free phones. Mainly so we could try out the service with no out of pocket expense other than that month. We each have the $30 plan, 1000 min, 1000 text and 30MB web usage. DH gave up his web usage and I never had it so the little we do have is more than enough. We figured if we liked the service and wanted to upgrade we would do so later and pay the $45 for unlimited everything.
Overall I am happy with the plan/service. We had soem minor issues activating the phones but DH called customer service and they were very helpful. Which was our biggest concern after reading on-line reviews. He got everything squared away with them walking him through it step by step and were very nice. One issue was his phone had the wrong SIM card registered to it and the one he had didn't work. They sent a new one out and we got it quick with no issues.
I do "drop" more calls than I did on Verizon but not enough to justify paying the extra $40 a month more like we used to. The biggest difference is I don't have bad reception on a call it just drops it. My sister just got Virgin and said the same thing. There is no more "Can you hear me now" it just drops the call. After having the service for awhile now I know where my drop spots are on my way home from work and just make sure I'm not on the phone.
The coverage seems to be different based on the phone too. Once DH asked me to send a text and I didn't have any bars but he had full bars... Overall it's not as good as Verizon service but if you are willing to sacrifice a little to save a lot you will like the service. Sorry this got so long but hope I helped some.
I have the LG 420G and DH has the Motorola W418G . It looks like right now all the free phones are only reconditioned. Mine was new but DHs was reconditioned and he has had no problems. There are a few others free now and some cheap ones too online is the best bet for buying a phone from them.
Okay I was wrong it's actually Walmart Family Mobile that I was talking about that is partnered with Tmobile that we are switching to. You may want to look at that one though. The first line is $45 for unlimited talk, text and web and then each addition is $35 for unlimited talk, text and web, or you can get each addtional phone with just unlimited talk and text, no web for $25.
