HELP!! multiple IVFers, more than 2 embryos

I am scheduled for my day 3 Et tomorrow. My RE is okie with either 2 or 3 embies.(Last 2 cycles i had two pre-blast/morulas transferred and a BFN)  I am not able to make a decision. Some points i can think of are

- cramming too many in small space (note i have endo),will this reduce survival chances of others
- going agressive and transferring 3
- i dont know where i stand on selective reduction

how did you make the decision?

Re: HELP!! multiple IVFers, more than 2 embryos

  • We were fighting with this as well until in the end we only had two and put those back.  I would do 2, it sounds like 3 will be a problem

  • With IVF #1 (bfn) and IVF #2 (bfp), we only had 2 good embryoes, so it made the decision relatively easy for us.  DH really only wanted to transfer 1 each time, but it seemed silly to only freeze 1 because of the likelihood of it surviving the freeze and thaw.
  • Oh wow, I remember wondering what to do as well ... I think you just need to go with worst case scenario and discuss with your hubby if you two are prepared for triplets, should that happen. If not, I would go with the 2! Just my two cents.
  • Also, just wanted to note- I had asked our RE if we could do 3 as well after two failed attempts putting two back each time ... he agreed, but the embryologist (or whatever they're called) at the clinic made the decision for us and just thawed 2.  I was pissed at the time but was so grateful to get my BFP with that try.
  • We transfered 1 embryo on our first IVF that failed. When we did our FET, we discussed whether to transfer 2 or 3. DH and I decided that if we had 3 embies make it, we would transfer 3. We ended up only having 2 that made it for ET. I am currently pregnant with a singleton.

  • With all of my IVFs we transfered 3 embryos without hesitation.  For my FET we transfered 4.  I also have endo.  My RE always told us that using 3 would greatly increase our chance for twins but we would still only about a 3% chance of triplets.  It's a hard decision but if I were you I would go for 3.  Good luck!
  • we just transferred three for my FET and I'm a bit scared. However, one of them was not in great shape, and my RE assured me the risk for triplets was low. I emphasized that I did not want triplets or selective reduction, and he still felt pretty comfortable transferring 3. So that's what we did. I felt that as long as my RE knew my concerns and felt comfortable transferring 3, then I would trust him.

  • I did 3. The odds of all 3 implanting was low enough for us to take the risk. I did 3 both times
