Hand me downs?

So, I received a million hand me downs for DS #2 (who will be here soon) but I also saved all of DS #1's baby clothes, PLUS- we got a lot of new outfits as gifts.

I feel like I am drowning in clothing!  I like to keep things simple... I'm not really sure how much of what I should hold onto.  With DS #1... we just got a few new outfits as gifts and we purchased what we thought we needed so there was never excess.  I feel overwhelmed!

How many 0-3 outfits should I hold onto?  I was thinking maybe 2-3 outfits per day, and if I wash once per week then that means 14-21 outfits?  Does that sound like a lot?  21 sounds like a lot to me :

Thoughts?  I know I'm probably over-thinking this... again, I like to keep it simple and not have excess of stuff because I feel like it makes things more stressful in the long run.

Re: Hand me downs?

  • I rarely wore clothes on DD the first 3 months of her life.  Just easier to keep her in a onesie while swaddled or a footed sleeper.

I would only keep ten 0-3 outfits.  I would keep at least 10-12 sleepers and let the rest go....

It's rare that I need to change his outfit.  I'm usually good w/ one outfit for the day, sometimes two.  I've never needed three *knock on wood*.   But I find that his clothes get washed more frequently then DD's did bc, well, I now have DD's to wash also so I wash them together.  So I don't need as big a rotation, kwim?

  • Keep it all. My DS had reflux and we went through like a million outfits a day. Keep about 14-21 outfits all ready for him to come home. If you find you go through a lot and having more makes life easier, get the rest out of storage.

  • I would probably keep 10 outfits in the drawers and perhaps a few more in storage if you do have a spitty baby.

Thanks for all the suggestions!  I have been sorting/washing clothes all day!  Shew, glad that's done.
