STM+ - Contraction Question

I was induced with DS so I didn't get contractions until the pitocin had started and they broke my water.

I've been feeling what I believe to be BH forever now - no big deal.  But yesterday & today, whenever I get them, I also feel like I'm going to throw up.  I can almost feel them pushing my stomach up and squeezing it - making me feel like everything is going to just come flying out.

I have an appointment tomorrow so I'll ask the doctor too but any "this is so normal" reassurance would be nice too.

Re: STM+ - Contraction Question

  • I've been having BH and regular contractions for a while now. My uterus is definitely is a space war with my stomach. I can barely eat anything and heartburn is TERRIBLE.

Just ask your doc, they will either tell you that you are fine and send you on your merry way or they will do a cervical check and possibly put you on the monitor to see if it picks up the contractions. I had back labor with DD so having "real contractions" with out a lot of pain is pretty unnerving/ frustrating.

  • I think that is normal.  Last night I felt the exact same way, and I wanted to throw up, but I couldn't.  But that feeling of NEEDING to throw up was there in waves until I fell asleep.  I figured it was just intense BH.  Feel any better today?  Mine settled down, but the heartburn and feeling of being "full" is still there.

  • I think it's normal, too.  I've had uncomfortable BH with nausea.  It's happening earlier for me this time than last.  Of course, it's great you have a doctor's appt coming up because that'll give you more reassurance!

This.  It's happening earlier for me this time and I think I'm noticing it more this time.  Real contractions for me were a lot lower and a lot more of a shooting pain.  This time, the BHs just feel like they're pushing everything up and tightening so much that I feel sick.

Definitely check-in with your doc though!

  • What's more important than how they feel at this point is how consistent they are -- are they timeable? Do they stop when you lay down, take a drink, or take a bath?  If they are not consistent and you can interrupt them, then they aren't the real deal....but putting you up on the monitor and checking if you're dilating/effacing is probably the only way to be certain of that.

I've been feeling very strong BH lately, much moreso than with DS......they take my breathe away and I can feel them pressuring my stomach and can see how they might make you nauseous.  So hopefully just nothing and totally normal!!

  • If you are having period-like cramping along with the nausea, then I might be concerned. I know a few people who threw up as they were going into labor. But if it's just BH, then it's probably ok. The OB might tell you to eat smaller meals throughout the day or something since your stomach is being squished. Keep us updated!

No, nothing I can time or that I can't deal with. I do have a few every once in a while that I do breath through but again, nothing I can time.

Last night I was clearing the dinner table and this baby was pushing down so hard I wouldn't have been shocked at all to see my water break then & there.

My doctor is doing an internal tomorrow because MH has a business trip he's going on and she wants to know if he should be on "high alert" or not.  I know how quickly things (or not quickly) can change so I'm not really too concerned about the internal.  It will be nice to know if there has been any progress though - more of a "that's good to know" than "OMG I'm going to give birth tomorrow!
