Great 3rd betas! + early u/s timing question

Morning ladies! I got my 3rd beta results last night - they are over 2500 so def. jumped a LOT after the 168 draw I had last Wed. I was SO relieved. I know this doesn't mean everything, but it's another step in the right direction!!!!!

A question for those of you who have had early ultrasounds - how early did you have them? In the note, my Dr. said I can schedule an ultrasound for later this week or next week. Schedule-wise Friday works best for me but based on O date, I would be 5w 1 day. That seems a bit early to me.

Next week makes me nervous b/c I have a big golf tournament to run next Thursday, so a lot to do before then. I could make next Friday work but would have to cancel a meeting. 

Ugh, basically, I don't want to go too early but I also can't handle going on a day when I have something to lead at work in case we get bad news. Any advice, ladies?

Congrats on your betas! I had an early ultrasound around 5 weeks and all we saw was an empty sac.  That made me nervous but the ultrasound tech said that it was so early so seeing that was normal. I went back a week or so later and saw an embryo with a heartbeat. Sending you lots of positive thoughts!

Congrats on great betas! I went in at 6w 1d for my first u/s. I thought I was 8w 1d but was measuring 2 weeks small. There was still a strong heart beat and everything looked good at the second apt. Good luck at your u/s...

I had one at 5 weeks and all we saw was the sac. We went back at 8 weeks and saw the heartbeat.

Lurking. . . congrats on good numbers! I had an u/s at 5 weeks and all you could see was a sac, but mostly they wanted to make sure it wasn't ectopic at that point. At 7w we saw the heartbeat. Good luck!!!!

My first ultrasound was 7w2d, and we were able to see the baby measuring right on track (well a day behind), and a strong heartbeat of 140. 

For me, I wanted more peace of mind, and I knew I wouldn't have that if I scheduled my ultrasound before I could see the baby.

Nice betas!!!  I went yesterday at 6w4d and we got to see a heartbeat   I didn't want to go any earlier than 6w as I knew the heart wouldn't have formed until then.  But that was just my criteria

I don't have any advice, but I am so exscited for you!  Those 3rd Betas are fantastic!!

congrats on those rising betas!  Since you asked, I'd probably wait to schedule the US until at least 6+ weeks so you'd get to see the hb.  Its alot more reasuring than seeing the empty sac and maybe fetal pole that you'd probably see in the 5-6 range.

I had mine at 6w 3d and saw a good HB of 120.  I think it is a gamble whether you see anything before that.

5w would have been too early for me to feel reassured about anything.

Congrats on the betas.  As for the u/s, my doc advises against any u/s before 7w.  Her reasoning behind this is that by 7w almost every viable pg has an easily seen hb and is big enough to measure.  At 5w you will likely only see a sac and maybe a fetal pole.  At 6w, you will see a sac and a pole and possibly even a hb, but it could be very slow as the heart usually just starts beating sometime during week 6.  My doc finds that if an u/s is done during wk 5 or 6 and the patient doesn't see a hb, it just causes more anxiety than relief and leads to more followup u/s's.  Also, if you o'd later than you think, or had late implantation even though by LMP you are 5w, baby might measure a few days behind and at that stage of the game there isn't really much to see on an u/s.

If I were you I would wait til 7w or late 6w to have the u/s.  You can request more betas to tide you over and provide some re-assurance in the meantime.  Just my 2 cents.

My OB told me this....She would be happy to do an u/s whenever I wanted but she strongly encouraged me to wait til just past the 6 week mark.  I think I went in at 6 weeks 2 days.  I won't lie....waiting was HARD.  BUT it was well worth it to see a tiny baby and that little flickering heart!  Seeing an empty sac would have killed me.  But I think you need to decide what you personally feel comfortable with.

My doc brought me in for an u/s last week at 5 w1d even though I thought it was too early. All they saw was gestational sac and yolk sac, and possible fetal pole. It was reassuring to see even that little bit, but I'm going back next week at 6w5d to try to see a heartbeat. If I could do it over, I don't know that I would have resisted the early ultrasound even though I already knew they weren't going to be able to see anything. It was unnecessary though in my opinion.

My OB does the first u/s at 8 weeks based on LMP.  I knew I'd O'd late, so I wasn't surprised at all that the baby measured 7 weeks, but there was a beautiful HB.  Personally it would drive me crazy to go in and only see an empty sac, or a bean with no HB, so I recommend that you wait until you would be 7 weeks when you know you should see something more definitive.

Thanks so much for your input, ladies! I scheduled for one week from Friday. That will put me 6w1d by ovulation date, 7w1d by lmp. I should have clarified that in my original note, that I chart and ovulate late (although it was earlier for ME this time!). I do think I implanted on the earlier side since I got a BFP at 10 dpo and that's the earliest I've ever gotten one.

Congrats on your numbers...woohoo!  I had my early ultrasound at 6 weeks, and I think that is the earliest they like to do them at my doctor's office.  We saw baby and a heartbeat (118). Good luck!
