Gender reveal @ baby shower

DH and I want to announce the baby's sex at the baby shower. Were not really fans of the whole pink for girl and blue for boy, so we figure this way we'll end up with gender neutral items and everyone will get to find out the baby's gender at one time. Would this be acceptable?

I don't see why not. It is your personal choice. I HATE HATE HATE puke pink and baby blue for everything a baby wears. I actually told my mom I want an "equality shower" and on the invitation I want her to put that all colored clothes are welcome.

I've read on some other boards that people think it's tacky, but I think it's a super cute idea! Would you find out beforehand, or at the shower?

 I really wanted to do a gender reveal party (with just my parents and ILs) since I was Team Green the first time around. But, DH is strongly against it. Sigh. 

Do it, so I can live vicariously through you, lol!

I think it's a really cute idea! And I mean, it's your decision to make. I think your friends/family will be so excited to find out at the shower, and already excited about celebrating the baby that none of them will mind. Now outsiders and other boards may say it's not a good idea or it's tacky....but I really don't think your family/friends would be like that. I mean in the grand scheme of things does it really matter how or when you do it? It's about your precious baby not "tradition".

I cannot contain this information that long--my shower will be 2 months after I find out. I don't love all the baby blue/pink stuff, but even the alternative patterns are hard to find totally gender neutral.

 On the day I find out, everyone is going to find out on Facebook or text or by personal telephone call, and my coworkers are getting cupcakes (I'm making lemon cupcakes and two batches of frosting in advance: blueberry and strawberry).

I am the opposite I love girly clothes and very boy like clothes so I def want everyone to know what I am having ahead of time. With that said I think if that is how you feel it is totally up to you and a great idea if you don't care for the "pink/blue"

Were going to find out beforehand and then tell everyone else at the shower because there's no way I could wait until my shower to find out. DH thinks this way the shower will be more special and memorable and gives a good reason to have it be co-ed.

I think it is an adorable idea!  Even better if you keep it a secret that you will be revealing it!  We were team green for our first and we got plenty of gender neutral things to get us started and when DS arrived everyone showed up with little boy clothes.  All worked out well.  And I am also a huge pink hater!!!!  My daughter only wears pink when someone else buys it for her and most people know to get her purple instead!  LOL

I love this idea! I wish I had heard about it when I was expecting DS. I didn't want clothes, and most, if not everything on my registries was gender neutral. I'm not a fan of gender reveal parties alone, but as part of a shower I think it adds an exciting touch to the festivities.
