Thoughts?
Me personally? The nurses can take their "talking to" and shove it. I was so BFing that I denied my son formula for the first day. After he was screaming for hours on end and I gave in, he stopped. I realized he was hungry. Formula is food. Not medicine. It shouldn't be locked up. Yes, I understand that it won't be denied, but a brand new mother who has made the decision to FF doesn't need BFing shoved down her throat. A simple question of "Have you thought about BFing?" is sufficient.
There are medical reasons why a mother may FF. A kid may not be able to BF (we had a shallow latch, lazy suck and low vacuum). Don't make a mother feel worse about her decision than she already may be feeling.
Re: NY and BFing... article
I think the tone of the article is really one sided. I've done a lot of reading about this and from what I can tell, it's not like what the article seems. From what I understand, they are mainly after the marketing of formula in hospitals, not babies getting formula. I think many times, some women are really uneducated about breastfeeding in general. I know I was. I think that is the real problem. But I also do not think that formula companies should use hospitals as a way to market and advertise their product.
This. The article is very poorly worded. Basically - hospitals won't give out free formula samples to everyone and will provide support and education for BFing. It's an effort to educate and encourage BFing for people who aren't as educated on it and may not have thought to do it in the first place, especially if formula is just handed to them. MA hospitals agreed to this a couple weeks ago. Formula will still be available for those who ask and wish to use it.

This article is written with much more objectivity. It's VOLUNTARY for hospitals to participate.

Your welcome! I follow Kelly mom o. FB and there was a post about how much misinformation and sensationalizing there was about this initiative. People are saying its an attack on ff moms, which it is not.
