Cloth Diapering

XP from Nurseries: Cloth diapering - Where do I "dispose?"

I posted this over on the Nurseries and Baby Gear board, but I wanted to post here, too.  DH and I are strongly considering cloth diapers, or at the very least a trial run.  just to see how they work out for us.  I was just wondering what you ladies use as a diaper pail, since a Diaper Genie doesn't really seem too practical :)  A lot of the other posters said they use the hanging wet/dry bags.  Originally I thought they were more for traveling purposes, but I guess not?

Thanks!

  • I use a waste basket and a pain liner. You can use a hanging wet bag-we did for the first couple of months, but an open basket is much easier to get a messy diaper into.

  • We just bought a cheapy garbage can at Target and use a pail liner.

  • We do the majority of our changes on the first floor of our house so the area we have for diaper changing here has a white plastic tall kitchen garbage can that we use planetwise pail liners with. Upstairs in DD's bedroom we use large hanging wetbags on the back of the door.

  • I use PlanetWise XL hanging wet/dry bags because I don't have the floor space for a big enough trash can. I have two - when one is being washed with the diapers, the other one is in use. The bags are definitely not just for travel.

  • I think I was thinking of the smaller wet/dry bags when I was thinking they were for traveling.  I guess I'll wait and see how much additional space I have, then decide on a hanging bag or pail.  Thanks a lot!!
  • I've used just a bag before, but I really prefer having a trash can. I have a 13 gallon plastic can with a foot pedal for the lid, and it works great (I use a planetwise bag as the liner).

  • Our DD's nursery is pretty tiny, so there just wasn't enough room for a regular garbage pail and another diaper pail with a pail liner in it. We keep all of our diapers in a hanging wet bag on the back of the door.

  • We actually use a Diaper Genie and love it, we do have the disposable liners for it, but I made my own pail liner that is roughly the size of a planetwise pail liner. This works great, it still holds 2 days worth of diapers (prefolds, pockets, aios, and cloth wipes) we have 2 so when one is in the laundry there is a ready clean one to go right in.

We use a small foot lever garbage can with an old pillowcase as the liner. We have 1 in the nursery and 1 in the kids bathroom (where we have our diaper sprayer).
