Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Mothers of 4,5 & 6 week olds

What do you do when your baby is wide awake and just bored? In the past 2 hours we have had swing time, a 15 min nap, played on her floor mat with Mr Sunshine, played with rattles, went outside for a short walk and she is still wide awake and now just crying out of boredom. Do you ever just put dc in a swing and let them cry? My arm is killing me from holding her and i just dont know what else to do w/ them at this age? Any advice ?

    Um.. No!

Anyways, could she be crying because she's hungry, tired, wet or maybe it's because she's a baby and babies cry?

Sounds like you did a lot with her in those 2 hours. Maybe head out for a longer walk or take a car ride. Babies like to be held and soothed.

  • After 2 hrs of activity like that my one month old would either be hungry or tired, but over stimulated and need help relaxing (thus the crying).  I dont leave him in the swing crying unless its just for a min or two while i go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, etc.

  • Are you sure she's not crying because she is tired?  2 hrs is past ds's limit.  I have to put him down in his crib to sleep before he reaches the overtired point.
  • Do you have a exercise ball to bounce on w him?  That always calms DS when hes being a crab!

  • Have you tried feeding or changing? My DD recently began crying if her diaper is dirty...

Do you have a glider? Try holding them close and rocking them to sleep...

  • I think she was hungry. Gosh i feel so clueless sometimes. I fed her at 9am and again at 1030 so i didnt think she would be hungry again, but maybe she is cluster feeding. I fed her 4 oz and she seems content right now. Im sure she will be sleeping soon. Thanks !
  • I've noticed that, in last week, DD has been getting overtired/overstimulated after a couple hours of awake/play time (if you can call her staring at me or staring at some other inanimate object 'playing').

I have to swaddle and rock/bounce her a little bit and put her in her crib for a nap.
