Awesome nursery idea

I'm a teacher so I, of course, LOVE this!  But I thought I'd share.  You can make the shelves out of rain gutters.  I also found picture shelves at IKEA for $14.99.  Awesome way to feature books and have them double as decoration.  Instill a love for reading in your child from day one.

it looks really cute, but IMO and my experience, my toddlers would have had a blast taking all the books off and leaving the shelves empty and the floor cluttered, not to mention i'd worry about them trying to climb up them and breaking them or getting hurt. Cute idea, maybe it'd be better if you modified it when they got a lil older, or waited until they were older to do it.

I'm not planning on installing shelves all the way to the floor for that very reason.  I'm going to do mine up much higher and out of reach.

Cute! I'm thinking of doing something like this in our 2-year-old's room. He likes to pick out his own books to read, and I like how you can see the cover.

I also saw a similar idea on pinterest -- the person used $3 spice racks from Ikea and displayed books on them.

HAHA, i hear that! I started going through all our baby clothes and cleaning the spare room, and im like "well if i start now, i just might get it done and organized by the time baby arrives" lol.

I have something similar in my craft room to hold all of my jars with small things in them. I used a 1x2 with a 1/2"x1/2" wood piece to make the edge so that things don't fall off. Then I glued them together and attached them to the wall with L brackets. They are super cute and super cheap.

fwiw daycare had a smaller version of this which my son climbed up monkey style at like 6 months. Not a very safe option for toddlers... it is basically a ladder in their room.

ETA: ok i see that you would install up high - cute idea in that case!

I really love the sentiment behind it, but I don't know if I would have shelves up that high. I know as a kid I was a huge climber, and if something was out of my reach I would just try to scale whatever obstacles were in my way to get what I wanted. I think anything our kid would want to get should be easy to reach.
