Progesterone suppositories

Anybody else taking these? My doc prescribed yesterday after noting that my progesterone was pretty low -- twice daily, vaginally.

1) Any stories of increased progesterone to share?  I'm a LITTLE freaked out.  I think I was at a 7 and she said they like to see patients at a 20.

2) Um, easy to take them at night before bed, but in the morning it is rather unpleasant -- leaking, etc... any tips on that?

  • Yep, been on them many times and am currently taking them. Invest in a large box of panty liners!

Also, try to get them as far "up there" as you can to help with the leaking. I actually use my stash of PreSeed applicators to insert them and disinfect the applicators after each use.

Ooh, good tip about the pre-seed applicators.  Thank you!!

  • I just finished my round of them and was so thankful when I was given the OK to stop.  Good luck.  :(

  • Ditto the panty liners. They will be your best friends.

  • With my first pregnancy, I took prometrium orally. My friend went to a compounding pharmacy and got progesterone compounded into pills. I didn't like taking prometrium in the a.m. bc it made me dizzy. See if you can take the oral pills.

  • The great thing about suppositories is that they get right to the source. You won't see a huge increase in your bloodwork while on suppositories but they are getting where they need to be.

I use pantyliners - if you can, wake up an hour before you actually have to get out of bed and insert it then. That gives your body time to absorb it and cuts back on the leaking.

I don' want the oral ones -- she prescribed the suppositories specifically because she wanted them to be faster absorbing, rather than having to be digested.

Thanks for the great advice.  Pantylines, check!  Up early to insert and go back to bed, check!

It already seems to have stopped some spotting so that's good.

  • I am taking them now and will be on them till 14 weeks. They suck. I take them at night and when I get up a couple hours later, I am dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out. Just keep taking them and like the other ladies said, invest in lots of pantyliners.

    Good luck with everything :)
