maybe dumb question - LOs and yogurt

I've seen a few posts about LOs who are eating yogurt - what kind are they eating?  Are you using cow's milk yogurt or something different?  I love fage greek yogurt and would love to start giving some to E.  E has had no reactions to food before, and has had milk products in other things (like pancakes or mashed potatoes), so is regular yogurt OK?  Do I need a 'baby approved' yogurt?  If so, what kind/brands are you using?

Re: maybe dumb question - LOs and yogurt

  • Regular or Greek yogurt is fine. I buy organic. I would also check the sugar content of the yogurt. DS didn't really like it but I need to try it again. I mixed it with applesauce and he still didn't like it. :(

  • We've used YoBaby yogurt first but was also told that whole fat greek or regular yogurt is fine. DS loves it!

  • I use Greek yogurt because it has more protein. Also, look for the highest fat content. At my grocery store, the highest is 2%. With cottage cheese, I was able to find 4%.

  • Thanks ladies! Glad to hear there is really no reason to buy a baby specific yogurt if he will eat the Greek yogurt we already get.

  • G eats the yogurt I make at home with cows milk, but he has also had greek yogurt.  I think the fage is a little more sour tasting and needs more fruit to sweeten it otherwise G makes this face:

  • We were doing YoBaby but have "graduated" to YoToddler. Both are full fat yogurt, which is what they need, so any kind is fine as long as it's not low fat.

  • We use the YoBaby... DS LOVES it. I think of all the things he's eaten so far it's his favorite. He goes nuts for it. The only trouble I have found is that I can only give him half the container a day. I found on the days I gave him a full container and he was really bound up.

DS eats full-fat Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt.

We buy the regular full fat yogurt from Trader Joe's. I love how it's high quality and still low cost!
