Does increased "lightning crotch" mean you're close to labor?

I've been having the "lightning crotch" feeling sporadically for the past few weeks, but right now it is super painful and it has lasted for about 45 minutes. And it kept happening earlier this evening while I was trying to walk around Target. Does the increase in intensity and length of time mean that I'm close to going into labor, or is that just wishful thinking? This is incredibly uncomfortable right now.

Probably just pressure of the baby on your nerves down there.

I'm not sure, but I have heard it means that the baby is getting more engaged into position for birth......Causing extra pressure-the "lightning crotch" sensation.

So I would think baby is gearing up for the big day!

I really hope not ... I've been experiencing it more often and I'm only 29 weeks... Like pp said, I think it's just pressure.

Well you're 37 weeks, so you're close to going into labor anyhow. I'm end of 36 weeks and also having increased symptoms such as lightning crotch & braxton hicks.

Yeah, I've been wondering if my baby has a knife in there! Every now and then I feel a stabbing at my cervix...Ouch! I can't help to think of baby Stewie from Family Guy...LOL!
